 I think the original thread had run its course & become uninteresting to the majority of posters , any action to end it for whatever reason, was ok for me.

Brexit is a subject most people  want  to avoid not discuss.... After years of debate  & disagreement - 'moving on' seems the best option, so just a 'one off' reply from me.

As I've said before, personally, I don't believe we can rejoin the EU on the terms we previously enjoyed any time soon.  Whoever replaces BoJo has to be prepared to repair the UK's relationship with our closest and, previously, most lucrative trade partner.  Hopefully, this could eventually lead to bilateral agreements between the UK and the EU which address some of the worst impacts of Brexit.  The final list of 'runners' to replace BoJo remains to be seen, but I would like to see Sajid Javid on it.

I don't see why anything would change.

90/180 is a Schengen rule which isn't going to be changed just for a  statistically insignificant number of disgruntled holiday home owners or swallow.

Inheritance laws are individual to Spain and similarly are not going to be changed to suit Brits.

And as you say the DL issue is, or we are assured is, close to resolution.

It might be that a win by the LibDems at a general election could radically change the landscape but the chances of that are a long way off.

Given the undeniable shift in support for Brexit, and the change in damographics which has brought millions of young people (who's future it is) into the electorate I think the right thing to do would be to combine the next general election with a rerun of the referendum.

A precedent has already been set for British people who are no longer EU citizens (but Spanish residents) to be treated exceptionally by a number of EU member states: and if the driving licence exchange in Spain is as close to resolution as the UK Embassy suggests, that would be an exception granted by Spain.  There are already bilateral agreements in place between individual EU countries and the UK, which Brexit hasn't altered, so it could be possible to make special arrangements for UK citizens in the future.  However, I think the 90/180 Schengen rule is going to be a sensitive one for at least a generation.  "Controlling our borders" was such a prominent part of the Brexit campaign, I can't see the EU readily agreeing to compromise their own border security for the benefit of UK citizens any time soon.  In fact, with EES due to be fully operational by September and ETIAS due for rollout later in the year, control of EU borders is going to become more rigorous, but digital systems could also provide the platform to monitor easing of restrictions, so perhaps that may prove beneficial to future generations.

Villas, I’ve taken the time to hit the link and read the article above.  There was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in the article whatsoever.  Clearly it was written to fill a gap in that publication as there was NO NEWS in the article. 

If you think an government, regardless of who is their leader is going to rejoin the EU at this particular time, you are dreaming.   The country has come through a pandemic which has cost the country a massive amount of money. We are looking straight into the mouth of a recession, businesses may collapse, the cost of fuel has soared and we are financially supporting the Ukraine in their battle with Russia.  Why on earth would a new Prime Minister ( even if they wanted ) mention going back into the EU?  We wasted so much money negotiating over 3 years.  I’d prefer that it never happened but it did and now we have to learn to get on with it. 

Your article said nothing that could possibly lend any brexiteer hope, zilch. 

Move on and put Brexit behind you.   It hasn’t affected my life . I couldn’t care less which passport control I go through as long as I get through. 

People who would like to move to Spain should have to prove to the Spanish authorities that they can afford to keep themselves there. Before long, they may increase that amount to keep up with the massive hike in everyday living.  We still have our Global health cards so can visit a doctor or hospital if necessary. No change there. The Spanish aren’t foolish. They know that people were coming to live in their country and working and living under the radar.  No country needs or desires immigrants who cannot afford to pay their way. Spain has now put a stop to that with the British. 

The Schengen rules haven’t changed as far as I’m aware. The ruling was always the same. Apart from the 90 days only in every 180 days.  There are still people living under the radar!  Nerves of steel but still living in Spain , not paying tax, travelling and ignoring the 90 day rule. Nobody has come to their door or tapped them on the shoulder. also bought property and a car!  
people will be people. No change there. You should try to move on as clearly Brexit has hurt you…… don’t let it.  Move on and pretend it never happened.
