Is it just me, or perhaps the Victor Meldrew setting in!

There seems to be many balding types, again Victor comes to mind, with loud motor bikes.

I am not, by any means, a biker. I once had a Honda 70 if I recall… But it never stalled and I never found the need to rev it, when coming to a stand/still or parking up outside a bar for instance.

I asked a chap the other day, after noticing his Harley Davdison sounded considerably more quiet and sweet than usual, if he’d had his exhaust fixed.

He informed me that he’d put the original back on, in order to get through the Spanish MOT i.e. ITV… and then replaced it with the noisy one.

As we spoke, a Harley Davidson rode past, burbling sweetly. Heads turned in admiration.

My companion donned his crash helmet, started his machine and after revving it for three or four minutes rode off to annoy some others.

Is it just me?

Noise gives the illusion of speed.

There is also the argument from certain sectors of the biking community that "Loud pipes save lives". Also don't forget that, being a Hardly Able Son, there is a badass reputation to maintain - notice that you never see any of them smiling when riding!!

I do ride a bike and have done for years.

Harleys have to be so loud to reasurre their owners they are still running as they are so unreliable.

I have been biking for 35 years and all I can say is Harleys are loud and obnoxious and there owners are generally the same. That's just my experience.

Love the sound of Harleys and Big V8 engines, hate the sound of the Japanese rice burners ;-)

I had an Akropovic exhaust on the GS I have just sold.  It had a bung in the pipe.  When local I kept it in to stay within the law.  When touring I tookit out.  Loud is safe.  Pedestrians as much as motorists. need to hear you coming.

We can expect a rise on the number of pedestrians injured then? with the onset of the electric age. I really don´t think I need to hear a noisy exhaust coming whilst enjoying a quiet drink, sitting outside a bar. Have a very happy & peaceful  Xmas. V
