Drving in the UK with a Spanish Driving Licence

We have recently acquired our TIE Residencia Cards,and also exchanged our UK Driving Licences for Spanish Licences.

However I still own a Car in the UK, ( which at present is registered SORN)

Does anyone know what the situation is , in these circumstances, if we return on vacation to the UK, and wish to drive our UK owned and registered car. Specifically, is it likely to be a problem to obtain Insurance, to enable the car to be taken off SORN, and for us to drive our car.

I am a U.K. citizen and just renewed my U.K. car insurance for my U.K. car in the U.K. a question I’m asked every year is “Do you hold a full U.K. driving license?” That maybe a clue to your predicament. Also, I have recently bought a Spanish registered car in spain. I can drive it in spain on my U.K. license but I’m not allowed to take it back to the U.K. unless I hold a Spanish licence. I can’t apply to take the Spanish driving test because I’m not resident. Buy YOU may be able to take a U.K. test (again) to solve your problems for trips back to the U.K.?
