Me and my family are going to move to Spain early next summer on nlv visas.

I have a suitable health insurance policy for the 5 of us but it doesn't allow for the monthly prescription meds we take here in the UK.

I believe once in Spain we would need to go to local GP where out spainish house is and get a prescription to take to the pharmacy, how much are these perceptions though?

If you are on private health insurance then you will have to pay the full retail price for medicines.

Thanks for the quick reply, is there a list available anywhere as to the cost for the meds?

Mostly Asthma inhalers and gabapentin

  1. I'm sure you will be aware different medicines have different prices. For example, I take high blood pressure tablets and a pack of 10 tablets 53 cents, 28 cholesterol tablets €1.95, 40 pack of paracetamol tablets under 2€, amoxicillin antibiotics 30 tables 3.57€. If you Google your medication asking for the Spanish cost this should give you a good idea.

I should have added some medication can be bought over the counter without a prescription. When I arrived here I took my emplty medication containers into the pharmacy and they advised what I could get without prescription.

Inhalers I believe can be very Expensive, €70 a go I've heard.

I think the prices John123456 has quoted will be the 10% payable by those in the system. People on particularly low incomes pay nothing.

Hi Darro. The prices I have quoted are the full retail price. I pay the 10% prescriotion rate on the retail price, therefore my hypertension tablets are 5 cents, cholesterol 20 cents etc.

Have a great day.

I'm not familiar with asthma inhalers and if there are different varieties, however, I found this link from 2022, which quotes a price for Ventolin blue inhaler:
