Has anyone flown into Alicante in the last day or so via Ryanair, we have a friend arriving from Manchester next Friday. She is in the process of gathering the necessary documents and knows that Spain does not require a Fit to Fly document but wonders if the airline, ie Ryanair requires you to have one. She has not so far been able to get through to them to verify this.

Hi Jayne, Speaking with my friend she too has decided to take a test before coming over, rather than get to the airport and hit a problem, also she comments that she will have set her mind at rest that she will not carry anything nasty over to us.

Lovely to hear of travellers taking responsibility for sensible precautions to protect you, as well as themselves. With the EU having reminded Spain this week of the Europe-wide need for PCR tests for travellers entering its borders, Ryanair may be ahead of the game here. I hope you all have a lovely holiday with your visitors.

I flew in form stansted on Wednesday. Didn’t need anything at all. Obviously when you return to the Uk you need the 2 and 8 day test. The package I bought when I returned was only for those tests. Think it was £120 for them. Didn’t include a pcr for travel to spain.

Yes Kim, Good that people take responsibility for their actions, hopefully all will be fine - as it it, my friend who works within the NHS has a weekly test for covid, regular blood tests etc. so an extra test is no problem.

JUst wondering - probably a stupid question like the rest of these rules but if you're going to isolate at home why do you have to take tests too?
(I mean when coming back of course)

Hi Graeme,
I think it's to do with traceability. Typically, people who contract Covid-19 (if they're not asymptomatic), start to show symptoms at Day 5, so if you have a test on Day 2 which proves positive, then it's likely that you contracted the virus just before or during travel. A negative Day 2 test, followed by a positive Day 8 test would suggest you contracted the virus after arriving back in the UK. Most importantly, these tests also pick up the asymptomatic people.
