In answer to the OP, yes, inflation has hit Spain pretty hard too. But as others have said not as hard as the UK

My water bill hasn't changed, my electricity has reduced very slightly but the cost of food is much higher.

Petrol rocketed but was cushioned by a Government rebate on the pump price of 20% (is that correct?)

Spain has also introduced a free rail commuting plan to help its citizens which will initially run until December.

Although I'm politically biased I think Spain has done a bit more to protect the population than the UK has done - so far.

The other minor advantage for Spain is that I understand little of it’s gas comes from Russia.

I don't see price of food becoming much higher. Only some items at supermarkets have increased about 15-20%. I still pay same for my food at restaurants. I still pay between 1 and 1.50 Euro for cup of tea or coffee. I don't travel much, so price of petrol hasn't affected me much. What I have noticed is that when price of a barrel of oil was around $120, petrol was 2 Euro per litre, when it fell below $100, is now 1.67 Euro per litre. They don't fleece people as they do in UK.

I don't see anyone mentioning relationship between high energy cost in UK and Brexit. Is there none ?

Kim,

the UK government has a raft of support measures to help with cost of living and energy cost increases. If you look at the attached link and click on the Help With Energy Bills you will see what is already being given for energy specifically. There are discussions to provide more hel...

...p with energy cost, a urgent need given the large increases coming in from October.

I don't disagree that OFCOM should be doing a better job, though I do not see what benefit will come from the GLP taking them to court in England and Scotland.

Rgds,

Aitch.

Thanks Aitch, I'm aware what the UK Government is doing, but it's how they're apportioning the discounts that have led to criticism from all areas of society, including the wealthier households who would rather see their discounts redirected to poorer households.  Even the Government's own website tries to justify the arrangements, posing a question about the Energy Bills Discount, "Why isn't this support targeted to vulnerable households who need it most?"

That's the point of Good Law Project's Court action: they want Ofgem "to commit to conducting a proper impact assessment and to explain why it rejected the idea of a social tariff", which would have protected those at greatest risk of hardship by the price cap rises - including the further 80% increase they've approved for October.

Kind regards,

Kim

A friend of mine runs a popular medium sized bar/restaurant in the Rincon area of Benidorm. She got her business Electric bill this morning and was complaining about the drastic increase.

2 years ago it used to be around €300/€400 per month,  yesterday's Electric bill for a month was €1,172....

She was saying that if that is going to be the normal monthly bill then bar and restaurant prices are either going to sharply rise or She will have to close the business. She has had to put up prices already because of food price rises especially cooking oil.

There is so much competition in business and everyone, myself included, except cheap beer and food but business owners are really suffering just now with food and electricity price rises. I think many businesses will close in the near future.

Well, in principle, how else would they cover the bills?

Any increases in beer and food prices would be in line with other local bars as they are all experiencing the same problems so yes in the end the customer has to pay more.

People are also customers of the Electric, gas and food outlets who are paying and will have to pay more.

The difference mainly being is customers can choose to either go in a bar/restaurant or not, you really don't have that choice with Electric etc suppliers.
