SLC (student loans company) are chasing me for repayment of loan they gave me for a course I did many years ago.
Are you still obliged to repay if you are receiving state pension ?
Don't know how they got my address in Spain. I suppose they chase you to your grave, and beyond.

By saying "they can pass the debt to someone else to collect", do you mean bailiffs ?
Are UK bailiffs authorised to operate abroad ?

I think Ray meant to the Spanish Tax authorities ( Agencia Tributaria), seems a bit extreme moving to Spain and trying to avoid settling your debts.

All UK government departments share information and have done for years.
My understanding of student loans is they only become payable once your income is at a certain level? I would be very surprised if your state pension qualified, you will only know what this is all about if you give them a call.
There is nothing that can't be sorted out, the worse thing you can do is ignore it and hope it will go away.

I didn't try to avoid my SLD, they automatically deducted from my wages when I was working, didn't think I was eligible to repay after retirement. I didn't move to Spain to avoid this debt.

I got a student loan over 20 years ago and I'm still paying it back. Payments didn't kick in until I reached a salary of £16000 (back then) and not much comes out of my salary so it feels like I'll be about 90 when I pay it off, but at the end of the day, a debt is a debt. Might be best discussing your situation with the Student Loans Company and HMRC. Failing that, try Citizens Advice.

If government departments share information, then SLC must know about all my income, including state pension, which together with my online job is less then the tax threshold (18000 Euro per year ?).
If I don't qualify to pay income tax, can I still qualify to pay SLD ?
