I rest my case, what can one say?
We just have to accept that the Brits traditionally are simply unhygienic.

You might like to think your comments are topical but I also know several Spanish people who also think that bidets are a pointless bathroom additional especially now that most bathrooms have modern shower facilities.....

I don’t necessarily think they are seriously topical, I’m following an amusing train of thought. Incidentally, so do many French people. However, .I disgreedeeply with them, shower availability or not.

My only thought on this subject ( if I'm correct). The word "bidet" is of French origin. The word "Izal" ( a 1950's UK grease proof paper to clean "nether-regions" was an alternative option to newspaper, then tissue. The word "skid-marks" was born about the same era.

We’ve also duct taped over our basin and bidet overflows, and put the plugs in when not using, and find this helps.
We started this years ago when we’d have the odd cockroach appear in the bathroom, having climbed up the pipes. The blocking of the bad smells is a pleasant side effect!
We are also in Torreta. We also had the problem when the wind was from a particular direction, thankfully not often. The smell in the bathroom came from the electrical socket !! We use the bidet regularly!. We sealed that and the smell was less but then it came from small gaps in the grouting between the wall and floor tiles. Eventually we sealed everything even in one of the bedrooms. Neighbours confirmed that depending on the construction and wind direction there was the possibility of bad smells. (Btw. I also tried with directional exhaust pipes fitted to the down pipe, not 100% effective) With everything sealed the problem has become virtually non existent. Ok, I am told that the reason for the problem is that most of the underfloor wastewater system was made with half concrete pipes that were just covered with raised blocks in order to save construction costs. Houses that have had serious floor renovation work do not have a problem as they now have a proper drainage system. Because the drainage system was not sealed, depending on the house and relative wind direction the interior of the house becomes a low pressure zone and air/bad smelling air etc is sucked into the house through any fissures etc that connect in any way to underneath the house. I know ours is a temporary fix but in the future the drainage system will have to be brought into the 21st century!
Clothes peg anyone?

Ps, There is often a clue about your neighbours house in your place or vice versa!

How awful!
Is this all the Torretas and does it affect other urbs such as El Limonar, El Solado or over the CV905?
We found all sorts of questionable building practices, especially the electrics, when we reformed our villa but thankfully this was not one of them.
