lucky you they charge me Euros32 every 3 months - because of non residency

This is why many non residents are switching to Wise. Its free. I used to pay 40€ per quater to Sabadell purely for ny direct debits

Or just put Wise in the search box at the top and see the very many discussions about Wise Bank that have already been posted.

Or simply Wise bank account in Google which explains it all.

Here you go

https://wise.com/

Its a free bank account that you can open in several currencies. Also allows Spanish direct debits to be set up on the account . Its online but you can apply for a card for withdrawals. We only use it to transfer funds and to pay our bills

Stan, this does seem a bit harsh. Personally, although I ran our business in a UK for years ( despite being terrified of our accountants!), I had never heard of Wise, nor Revolut, until I read about them here. Admittedly we do not use them, being resident and using Caixa, which makes no charges to us.

As for research etc, it can be very daunting, Spanish bureaucracy is difficult, especially for those with little proficiency in the language and has, I understand, been compounded by the self flagellation of Brexit. To an extent I agree with your point, but if people are confused, an English language forum where questions may be asked, will seem a godsend.

Thanks everyone (especially for being called 'useless').

I now have a Wise account (which makes me feel 'wise')

Hi just wondering if anyone can shed any light on a deduction from my Caixa account. I have just opened the account and I am starting to load with funds for a property purchase. When I checked today there was a payment of 23 euro which said C.LIVING SOLUT.

Would be good to know what this was for.

Thanks

Den

I dumped my Spanish account 3yrs ago as the monthly fees were ridiculous!

Wise is a bank in Belgium (used to be Transferwise) and does not charge for the account as long as there is 1000euros in it-I pay for all my Spanish amenities via Wise!

I swapped from Sabadell to Wise too. Not only do you get free direct debits but you also get a very good exchange rate too, even better than the currency exchangers that I used to use. All for no monthly charge - winner winner chicken dinner!
