This suits us as we are mainly there to enjoy the lifestyle & weather etc. We don't stay in much in the evenings watching TV either and on the odd time it's raining and cool we watch the TDT or DVD's. If the UK footie is not on the TV then we go to the local bar(s) to watch it, which is more fun.

When we first came to Spain we thought we would need UK TV but every now and again we think about when we would have had time to really watch it, as we do in England and for us it would be wasted. There is enough on the TDT TV to keep us happy for a few hours on a rainy afternoon/evening and we even get Spanish lessons too as we enjoy watching the news in Spanish and they always show the fiestas around the country too. I agree that if we lived full time in Spain we would probably miss the UK TV and would no doubt get it piped in like most expats but with the recording facility back home in the UK it just means a Corrie or Neighbours fest when we get back to the UK weather -Something to look forward to - the soaps not the weather... LOL

Jan, sorry if this is an obvious question but do you need a satellite dish for this service or do you just buy the box?

No everything is done through the underground fibre optic cable  we only had the Internet as we use an amazon firestick for TV but we wish we had had the TV  fitted as most of the free UK tv streams have been stopped now. I went to ask about having it fitted now and it will cost us 40 euros a month now instead of 30 for 2 years as we didn't  have them fitted together. My husband wont have a dish he doesn't like all the wires and there is more disruption if there is bad weather,  We live here but if you rent the propertype  out it is a good thing to have. Hope that helps.

It was 60 euros fitted including the modem and would have been another 60 euros for the TV to be fitted inclouding the box. Then it wold have been 30 euros a month but like I said we just had the Internet.

No just the box.. it's exactly like the set top boxes in the UK if you have or had one ( they are in any newer TVs nowadays. )

You do need a TDT aerial but if you are on an urbanisation/development you should find there is a communal aerial especially if there are Spanish residents living there.

If there's not an aerial already installed it's easy to fit one or get one fitted as that's all that's needed for a TDT box or TV. Our neighbour has put one on his roof as he is Hungarian and didn't realise that our community had one by the swimming pool.

Our neighbour/ friend opposite us had satelite for her holiday home and then bought the TDT after seeing ours, as there are no ongoing costs and she realised she didn't watch TV that much to be paying for it. My OH disconnected her old satellite connection and plugged her aerial connector into the Spanish TDT socket and it worked.

Obviously this system is not for everyone especially those who can't spend a short amount of time away from the UK soaps and everyday UK TV.but it has just enough to get some watchable TV on those rainy cooler days and evenings of not going out for those like us.

Hello.

you are able to buy a TDT box really cheap. Or if your TV is modern, you can just get a cable from the wall into your tv then search for channels. But that is for Spanish TV. With most boxes you are able to change to the original language of the programs (turn of dubbing for example) so most of the channels would be in English. There are many channels including Disney and other Kids channels and Paramount Movie Channel.

Hope i could help.

Hi there

we have just brought a house in casada there is a facility to go with the previous provider but the price seams far to expensive for a holiday home so looking for an alternative and like you, not fussed about watching all day long but like to some time.

do you require a dish,/ internet for your system  if so how big ?

thank you

steve

I use Sat TV plus and its a turn on turn off service at 20 euros a month. There was a setup fee. I then subscribe to an Iptv service which costs about 60 euros a year for all channels. So whenever I go over I get internet switched on and channels are then available.
