Hi All,

This is an excerpt from the official Spanish Government statement on Covid entry requirements:

Passengers coming from countries or areas of risk, considered as such according to the assessment of their epidemiological situation at all times, will be required to certify any of the following health requirements:

a) Certificate confirming that the holder has received a vaccine against COVID-19 (vaccination certificate).

b) Certificate indicating the result of a Diagnostic Test of Active Infection of COVID-19 that has been carried out by the holder (diagnostic certificate).

c) Certificate confirming that the holder has recovered from COVID-19 (certificate of recovery).

The key word here is ANY, which I read as you can have a), b) or c) but don't need all of them.

We have a holiday booked at the end of Feb and our 14Yr old daughter has only had 1 jab but had Covid last September.

More detailed information is included here - https://www.sanidad.gob.es/en/profesionales/saludPublica/ccayes/alertasActual/nCov/spth.htm

This info is updated every week.

Best of luck.

Thanks Ian13, that sounds promising!  My granddaughter hasn't had covid so no certificate of recovery and she's still only had 1 vaccination so it would have to be diagnostic test. Is that similar to a PCR test or different? Only the other day they announced  that not only did 12 and overs need 2 vaccinations but also needed their booster too. I've also read that Spain doesn't accept proof to fly either. So what you've posted gives us hope. Thanks

Hi Ian,

The extract you've quoted appears to be the rules for EU citizens and residents travelling to Spain.  The UK is a Third Country Nation and so the correct rules for UK citizens are detailed in the link you provide - from the landing page, choose the tab "Travel to Spain" and then the link titled "Entry requirements for entry in Spain from Third Countries" - exception k. applies, which states:

" k. Persons with a vaccination certificate, that the Ministry of Health recognizes for this purpose, after verification by the health authorities, as well as their accompanying minors (under 12 years of age). In the case of persons residing in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland who come directly from the United Kingdom, they must also arrive in Spain with a vaccination certificate as of 1/12/2021."

Covid recovery certificates and negative test results are not included.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Dave,

On 13 January 2022, the Spanish health ministry announced that people aged 18 to 39 years old are being added to the booster programme, but children aged from 12 to 17 remain outside of the booster campaign.  Whether this changes in the future is anybody´s guess, but there has certainly been no announcement to that effect.

Kind regards,

Kim

I think the booster for the 12 and overs may just be the same as adults and only need the booster if 2nd vaccination was given more than 270 days.

Hi scotslady,

The Spain health ministry has not announced that 12 to 17 year olds are to receive the booster.  Where have you obtained your information?

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Kim!  I think you've misunderstood my post!   I was talking about kids in UK 12 and over travelling to Spain needing Boosters same as adults if their 2nd vaccination was given more than 270 days. I think your talking about kids living in Spain and their boosters!!  I think we're all a bit confused with all were reading.

Hi Kim,

Did a lot more research over the weekend and the advice is ambiguous. However, if you look at this FAQ section of the Spanish Health website (updated by the ministry) you will see 2 statements which IMHO confirm what I said earlier:

https://www.spth.gob.es/faq?tab=2

In the EU Covid certificate section there is this explanation:

In addition, the EU has established equivalence between COVID-19 certificates issued by certain countries and the EU COVID Digital Certificate. Therefore, certificates from these countries will have the same status as an EU COVID Digital Certificate.

The UK is listed as one of the countries which has established equivalence.

Under 'What certificate of documentary proof will they require' it states:

EU Digital COVID Certificate IN DIGITAL FORMAT, issued by a member state of the European Union. It may contain one or more of the following documents proving that a person:

  • has been vaccinated against COVID-19
  • a diagnostic test [NAAT (nucleic acid amplification test, e.g. RT-PCR, RT-LAMP, TMA) /RAT (rapid antigen test)] has been performed and the result was negative.
  • has recovered from COVID-19, after having had the disease.

NON-EU CERTIFICATE, THIRD COUNTRIES: this is any of the supporting documents listed above, but issued by non-EU countries, in a format readable by airport health control staff.

Again, they key statement is in the last sentence where it says any (not all) of the supporting documents.

Have to admit I am still confused as there is so much conflicting info, but I will print this off and show it to the officials at the airport and hope it gets me (and my daughter) in.

Hi scotslady,

It was your reference to "270 days" that confused me, as that's the validity period for the EU Covid Certificate, whereas the NHS Covid certificate is only valid for 30 days.

In England, the booster jab has been available for 16 and 17 year olds from 17 January, but until the requirements for Spain and the UK concur, this is going to continue to be difficult for families with younger teenagers - although I'm not aware that the UK has any plans to vaccinate 12 to 15 year olds.

Kind regards,

Kim
