That is down to the fact that it’s now only the over 60 age group still have to report a positive test to the authorities. With the exception of the clinically vulnerable.

As there are no testing or isolation requirements for  anyone under 60, the figure is obviously not a true representation....

...

It’s the fiesta season, celebrations are back to what they were pre covid days.In fact all the fiesta’s I’ve been to over the past few weeks seemed busier than ever.

Alicante last week was crazy, squashed like sardines in a tin. Oh and about one person in five hundred wearing a mask!

Lynn

Covid is back doing the rounds everywhere big time. People staying in La Marina called with my friend, said he hadn’t been well and had stayed in bed. Just a cold! She in so that he takes test and a feint line appeared . Man absolutely refused to believe it. That’s what we’re up against. We’re also learning a lot more. Another friend here in (NI) caught it, continued to share the same bed as her husband but he never caught it. I’ve heard similar stories from many people. Do wear your masks. The medical people are saying that the variant in Scotland is a bad one. It’s expected to start spreading and no doubt will be everywhere by now. Some people are reported to have had covid 3 times. Each variant is different so people can keep catching new ones

Who was to think that all these new mutations could come about!  Way back at the start of the pandemic, we washed all our food delivery items! Sprayed antiseptic protection onto our post. It was madness but we all did our best to protect ourselves we’ve still managed to avoid it by still using hand sanitizers, washing our hands and keeping a good distance from others in shops etc.,

ANYONE FLYING ANYWHERE, DOUBLE MASK.   I KNIW SO MANY PEOPLE WHO CAUGHT COVID ON A FERRY OR AN AIRCRAFT. RECENTLY.   If you’re not worried, don’t bother.

Maybe all those warnings from Independent Virologists that these vaccines would cause Antibody Dependant Enhancement are proving true, and also explain why the vaccinated now require Booster shots of the same vaccine because they are now dependant on having their antibodies  topped up every ...

...few months? There are many studies showing the vaccinated have greater resistance for the first few months after a vaccine, but this wanes to less resistance than the un-vaccinated hence the need for repeated booster shots.

Why was this thread started to alarm people?

Can we just get on with life now.

Or shall we lock everyone away. Wear masks forever. And guess what people still getting the virus

Hi lexon,

I don't think the thread was started to alarm people - MrMike even calls himself a "nutter" for starting to use his mask again 😄

In the same weekly period, Covid infection rates in the UK also rose by 32%, due to the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 variants - mutations that have evolved to try and evade the original vaccines - so for people who are especially vulnerable, this is important news.  Obviously the focus of this forum is on Spain for primarily UK citizens, but a similar pattern of infection rates is occurring across Europe, since the variants were originally identified in South Africa.

https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/news-events/epidemiological-update-sars-cov-2-omicron-sub-lineages-ba4-and-ba5

With both Spain and the UK waiting until the autumn before offering a second booster, there will be many of us with waning antibody protection, so I think it makes sense for people to avail themselves of the latest information from reliable sources and make decisions appropriate to their own circumstances.  Personally, I don't plan to start routinely wearing a mask again during the Spanish summer, but I may well reconsider that decision when the temperatures start to drop in the autumn 🤔

Kind regards,

Kim

I DO research ( together with news, media etc. There are others too( on this site) that "follow" the progressive information as we are advised regarding virus protection. I therefore tend to agree with you. Nothing (without hind-sight), has, so far being inconclusive. We wait until. V

Hi Ian,

If you're talking about the Dr John Cambell who has been posting explanatory videos during the pandemic on YouTube, I'm afraid he has been  criticised that some of his videos include misinformation.

Here are a couple of interesting reads regarding the efficacy of natural immunity versus vaccine-induced immunity against Covid-19, and they don't support Cambpell's assertion that natural immunity is better than vaccination, particularly against the prevalent Omicron variants.

https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/coronavirus/covid-natural-immunity-what-you-need-to-know#amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&aoh=16569327425890&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hopkinsmedicine.org%2Fhealth%2Fconditions-and-diseases%2Fcoronavirus%2Fcovid-natural-immunity-what-you-need-to-know

https://www.dw.com/en/omicron-is-natural-immunity-better-than-a-vaccine/a-60425426

I agree that people should do their research, but ultimately, I think many will just look for information that supports their own view, irrespective of whether it's a peer-reviewed scientific study.  Many are fed up with the restrictions of the last 2 years and just want to get back to "normal".  Unless governments introduce restrictions again, I think many people will make decisions based on personal preference and their perception of risk, rather than what the science tells them.

Kind regards,

Kim

No it was just because it sort of jumped out of the blue on Spanish TV that morning and we hadn't seen much mentioned about it recently. I don't care what other people think about the pandemic and what they may or may not do about it. No further comment!

Hey Guys n Gals,

Just reading latest Covid contagion rate for over 60s here in Spain is just over 34%.

We are putting our masks back on in Markets and shops.

Obviously we are nutters but healthy at the moment!

Mike

Hi

Just to say I was asked to wear a mask when using a taxi from Torrevieja.

The first request in recent times in Spain.

Fortunately I did have one on me. The taxi driver was wearing a mask.
