Cant come soon enough (the scrapping I mean).  Ludicrous instances: a single person driving a car; sitting on an uncrowded beach; walking down an empty street etc etc.  In Torrevieja walking along the sea front within yards of people sitting at cafes and others on the fixed benches.&nbs...

...p; They will be sitting there eating or drinking, no masks, and yet people walking a yard or two away are compelled to wear a mask.  What on earth is that all about?

Why do people feel they have to wear masks ALL the time.  I have seen people leaving their homes masked up just to take a bag of rubbish to the bin, twenty yards away, on an empty street.  I believe that common sense is the best way to live, in all circumstances.  Wearing a flimsy bit of cloth over your face serves no purpose whatsoever in an isolated situation.  I can only think people have become so paranoid over time that it's like a crutch to keep you going, no matter what.

Oh, and I know what kind of responses I will get to this from some people - "It's the law, deal with it!".  Since when do all laws make any sense?

Someone on our street was stopped by the police and fined 100€ for no mask going to the bin , and by the way you don’t have to wear a mask sitting on the beach.

Ah, well that explains a lot about his attitude towards having to wear masks!! Its typical of many UK citizens to complain and refuse to abide by good advice about covid transmission. The UK is in dire straits with the covid infection rates especially with the Indian variant.

Hi Steve,

I can understand your views on masks though I am less sure of the benefits of wearing them out in the open that you are. The studies I have read recently say that most infections occur indoors rather than outside. Nevertheless I will follow the rules of the country we are in, be it Spain or the UK.

You are off the mark with your comments on the UK being in dire straits with infection rates, the UK has been at the lower end for infections, deaths and hospitalisations for some time now, certainly lower than Spain even with the recent Indian variant increases. The vast majority of people here follow the rules, wear masks and social distance as required.

Aitch.

Ah , the usual squabbles. I poke my pen in here once in a blue moon but always find it.

You cant bank on people to use common sense, a lot of people haven't got it, lots of people are ignorant too( it comes from 'ignore' ) . Consequently, there are specific black and white rules .

Some of your statements are absolutely ridiculous!!!

Here in the Alicante region we've had the lowest rates of covid because we've all stuck rigidly to the rules about masks and social distancing. The virus is airborne and could be blowing in the wind for hundreds of yards, it doesn't just become safe to breathe in hence the mask rules. I'll stay a...

...way from Torrevieja if that is the general attitude of the towns population!!!

Steve

Not when we were there, there were lots of people ignoring the rules, supermarkets were a joke when it came to social distancing.

The idea that the UK is "struggling"  because of the "Indian variant" ,is somewhat misleading ,the UK media,do the nation a disservice by continually broadcasting negative reports, eagerly picked up by EU politicians ,to divert attention from their woeful response to the Covid so far.

The UK has basically finished vaccinating the " at risk" population and is now mopping up by vaccinating 30 year olds and below. The strategy of extending the time between vaccinations from three to twelve weeks has worked as it protected large numbers very rapidly as is evident by the plunging numbers of hospitalisations, plus the extending of the time between vaccinations has been proved as effective as it increases the efficacy of the vaccine.

Once fully vaccinated Covid ,in all its forms ( it is still Covid regardless where it comes from) has no or very little effect and is relegated to the status of an annoying viral bug,the reports from India are vastly overblown, one of the world's most populated countries 54 billion, more or less, statistically is doing better than the UK or Italy did at their heights of infection.

The wearing of masks is an unfortunate consequence of social media pressure and a mass hysteria as "experts" floundered around for something to justify the ridiculous lockdowns that have blighted the world before a vaccine became available.Infection rates are meaningless as the Covid affects no one who has been vaccinated and actually only affected a miniscule percentage of people "at risk" anyway.

The "smoke and mirrors" regulations regarding flights are being employed in an attempt by governments in all countries to promote "staycations" and to claw back money into their respective economies.

Good luck with that ,UK has had the wettest May ,ever! In the UK the population is growing tired of restrictions and all the regulations over what is  after all, a ranked 4th serious virus infection, taken into context, normally 2000 people a day die of something in the UK daily.

As soon as possible, once the add on tests etc have been abandoned, vast amounts of the UK population will seek out the sun in Spain, the most loved holiday destination of British citizens, there is a lot of cash waiting to be spent by a very frustrated population.

Thanks Sharon.  I’m not responding to any of these people who only abuse others that they disagree with.  Not wasting my time on them

Completely agree with you mate

The police was called yesterday to deal with this old man not wearing a mask inside the shopping mall

He was refused service yes I probably agree but calling the police for such a ludicrous thing

People got time

Have we now hit the target of becoming an Automated nation

Not sure if we qualify as humans anymore

How sad

If you get your Coffee business set up here in Spain will you be strictly enforcing the mask rules?

Like it or not, at the time being it is compulsory to wear them outdoors and you can be fined for not wearing them.

Anyway, I don't understand quite well your last question / statement "Since when do all laws make any sense?". If a law does not make any sense to you, you don't need to abide it?

Still, fingers crossed they may scrap the masks soon

Oh Dellah if only that were true if you dont agree with a law you dont have to abide by it ,there have been some crackers introduced by governments during covid ,I have to say the scrapping of masks cant come quick enough for me ,at least outdoors ,if theres very few people about what does it achieve  ,and il bet people will be wearing  masks for years to come ,I remember when I worked in London  seeing oriental visitors masked up ,long before covid ,I thought it was to protect against pollution

Look at it this way. The province of Valencia has one of the lowest Covid-19  rates in Spain so maybe the law about wearing a mask is partially responsible.
