Information for Torrevieja although a sticker will be required in all municipalities with a population over 50k

There are a number of factors which will determine the eligibility for a sticker, you need to check out the  age and fuel type of your  vehicle

Just go to the Correos office with your logbook and passport and they will issue the sticker.

Hi,

if your car is on Spanish plates you can check your emissions rating on the link below:

https://sede.dgt.gob.es/es/vehiculos/distintivo-ambiental#

Note, put the registration in without any spaces. You can (supposedly) buy the emission sticker at  a post office if you take your registration document and your NIE number. Look on N332 website for more details, do a search on low emission zones.

If your car is on UK plates then the following is from the RAC website:

Spanish low emission zones – do I need a sticker?

If you are planning on driving through Spain, then be aware of its new low emission zones. Spanish motoring authorities in Madrid and Barcelona require you to have an official sticker on the rear window of a vehicle indicating its emission levels.

You have to register your vehicle to drive through the cities. The sticker is proof of registration and without one you may be pulled over by the transport police, who will check your details.

However, obtaining one is far from a quick and simple process.

You first need to register online, which can take up to 15 working days to be approved (zberegistre.ambmobilitat.cat). If you can’t wait that long, then you will need to call the ZBE helpline, which should be able to push it through immediately (0034 930 333 555, option 3 for an English-speaking operator).

Following this, you will then have to apply for the sticker via the website of the Spanish government’s road-safety department, and delivery can take up to 12 days (pegatinas-dgt.com).

Alternatively, you can buy one at a post office when you are in Spain.

There are also low emission zones in Seville, Valencia, and Valladolid – however, they are weather-related air protection zone and are only activated when there is severe air pollution. You will need to check the local government websites prior to driving in those cities.

In the years ahead, this will likely change, and other cities may add their own low emission zones.

----------------------------------------------------

Like the poster above I doubt that there will be anything clear in place for some time yet in Alicante region, but you never know.

The emission sticker situation reminds me of how panicky everyone was getting about the new speed restrictions that came in last year - lots of posts on here about how restricittve they were, police stopping speeders, etc, etc. Got to Los Dolses and found absolutely no difference!

Rgds,

Aitch.

I got mine from the link I’ve provided in my previous post. . Ordered Monday arrived Friday and that’s with two red days in between. Along with your registration document they will accept driving licence or National ID/TIE card.

Talking to someone today and some road signs are appearing in Benidorm, perhaps in starting sooner rather than later.

If you read in my link above the affected municipalities have until the end of next year to implement it.

If you don’t get a sticker it means that if you only make occasional journeys into place like Alicante or Cartagena, you’d need to check the website before making your journey to check if they have implemented the system.

The only part which is not definite is exactly when the schemes come into force and that's a when not an if.

Of less importance I grant but recalling the problems many of those who sat on their hands whilst they should - and could - have been sorting out their residences and driving licences delaying makes no sense so if your car qualifies for a sticker then you'll need it one day so stop prevarication and just do it!

I believe a ZBE sticker is about 5 euros so it's not really a tough decision is it.....................................................

As I already said, just go to the post office and buy a sticker. Then you have no problem when they introduce the new law. 😊

An new style camera has recently been erected opposite the old Dialprix on the main road into Torrevieja from the new Aldi - could well be for upcoming enforcement of the low emissions zone, no signs as of yet.
