We received a similar email from a large estate agent saying that the U.K. gov  had said we could travel to Spain in respect of buying a property etc, I must admit thought it was strange but did check the Gov site.  Thanks to you guys for confirming that even if we left the U.K. we woul...

...dn’t be allowed in.  On another note, we booked flights using our last years voucher for 1 July and guess what Easy Jet have already cancelled the flight - seems a little early to be cancelling, maybe they know something we don’t?

So sorry that your July flights are already cancelled, it does seem a bit premature when the vaccine program is running so successfully. We changed last years flights to April and now changed again to September but I really don’t know if we’ll get over at all this year even with having our two vaccines.Strange thing is that if you go on to EasyJet site, you can still book for July!!!!!

Totally agree that you need to see things for yourself. As you are not yet ready to buy, I would recommend that you travel independently, stay in a holiday let, (licensed one, of course!), hire a car and go exploring in between a few house viewings. Spend time talking to people that live in the a...

...reas you think will suit you, ask them questions about how things are at different times of the year under normal, non-covid times. Make a lot of notes, areas you like and don't like, property styles you like etc, and refine your own priorities regarding property and location. That way, when you do go back to view with the intention of buying you can be very specific about what properties you are wanting to view.

This may sound ‘cheesy’ but we watched so many episodes of A Place in the Ssun and it gave us a good insight into the areas that we liked the look of.

My advice is not to buy. However if you do make sure you get all the facts. The costs of running a holiday home are high. Try to speak with other owners wherever you intend to buy. Most are for sale on a Community and you can ask to speak with the President about facilities and Community fees, rules and regulations. Don't think you can buy on a Community and do as you like . You cannot. There are strict rules on many Communities and The President is the best person to speak with. Take you time and don't let you heart rule your head. Good Luck but be warned. There are non resident taxes, high standing charges for water and electricity, whether you use a drop or a KWH or not. Bank charges have increased significantly since Brexit, Suma tax ( council tax) and Commumity fees.  Then theres the 90 in 180 rule that applies on being in Spain for non EU residents as the UK is now. So you can't visit when you like as you could previously.

Thanks to clever editing that show can make the biggest dumps seem lovely. They once featured a property in an area near me, you wouldn't go there in daylight let alone after dark. They made it look great with the presenter telling the couple it was a popular traditional Spanish town. Yeah, popular with drug dealers.

Oh dear, didn’t know that. It wasn’t the properties but the beaches we were looking at!

We came out on a viewing trip with Spanish Legal. They paid all our costs and were great. No hassling to make is buy but we did eventually but a property with them. The lawyers they use are good and we are still with them.

Good Luck

40 people were refused entry at Alicante on Tuesday on a flight from Manchester. At Alicante there were signs saying NO TIE card NO Entry.

Despite the people concerned having letters to say, to collect their TIE cards from their designated office and other documentation to say they were residents. Border control were not interested. Madrid has said they should have been allowed in but they weren't and were put back on the outgoing flight.

So at the moment I wouldn't attempt to go to Spain to look at property. There were others going back to the Uk having been refused a residencia.

Until Tourism opens I wouldn't recomend traveling to Spain to try to get in on the premise of buying a property. Where it states you can travel to Spain for buying and selling a properrty, I would think that would be for signing documentation in the process once you've bought or sold. Just arriving and saying you're there to look at buying a property, I don't think that would be acceptable at the Spanish border.

Brexit has kicked in now the first 3 months/90 days has past in regard to the 90 in 180 day rule stays.
