I heard Russian tourists are using the Serbia loophole to travel. Fly to Serbia and onward to wherever.

They might be resident but I can see that loophole being closed pretty quick.

That genie ain't going back in the bottle 🤣

It never really has happened in the past, but it hasn't been too bad here over the last ten years.

Heard on C5 news Italy at 13.00 today. Pump prices 2.30 Euros per litre. 72c of this is fuel tax. (Ascisa) according to the news

So the price is made up there as :-   (B+C + A(B+C))  Where A is rate of VAT, B the Cost to public of fuel before taxes and C is the fuel tax. So in Italy roughly 50% of the pump price is tax, so they are really raking it in. No idea what the system is here but there VAT on a tax is a brill idea!

Thing is the State needs to get tax in,this is one where it’s difficult to dodge and brings in a lot of Euros, also tax on electric and gas.

If you have no idea on food prices in the UK please don’t comment to the contrary as you say you have no idea.

Hi Gemily,

I understand you're quoted statement - but please bear in mind others have posted here who do know UK prices and none have agreed that it's 60% cheaper in the UK.

I went on to post prices of a wide range of fruit and vegetables that I purchased at very good prices for here.  I'm not that stupid to realise that the UK equivalent, even without being there for some time, would be 60% cheaper.  Impossible, absolutely impossible.

I don't want to have a spat with you Gemily - honest, but I'm very defensive of my adopted Homeland despite all it's many faults.

I wish you well,

Janet.

According to The Numbeo website groceries in Bedford UK are approx 22.58% higher than in Alicante and Milton Keynes 42.6% higher so I am slightly confused, are you saying if I spent 115 euro in Spain on groceries I would get the same in the UK for £40 ?

I give up with you lot I don't lie go back to the UK and see for yourself end of

It's the same in the UK, the same in most EU countries, probably the same worldwide. The UK has not increased the fuel tax amount (57.9p) for around 10 years now but of course they get a vat tax rise when the price of the fuel itself goes up.
