This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Hi

yes this is correct it’s the norm in Spain and reserves the property for you to take time to do all. Due diligence. If the property has legal issues that cannot be rectified then this deposit should be returned to you! If you continue you normally pay 10% which is similar to exchange in UK.

Hope this helps

Hi Marcia

lots of good advice for you here  but I think the most important thing for you would be to rent and make sure this is what you want - the reality is often not what you expected! If you were to stay and become a Spanish resident be prepared for lots of paperwork, this can be really wearing. Unless you speak good Spanish try an area with ex-pats where you will be able to communicate and socialise whilst you improve your Spanish - I'm younger than you and have trouble with my English words now!! You will need to ensure you are within walking distance of a medical centre at the very least if you don't intend to drive - bear in mind that traffic is mostly much less than in the UK and won't be as stressful as you might imagine. Its also very important to make sure that you get the sun for most of the day if you are intending to rent in the winter - this can make the difference between being able to sit on your terrace and enjoy a read and a coffee or being like neighbours on the shade side who can't sit out at all. Because of insulation issues  the sun will help keep your property warmer and less gloomy. Heating can be a problem because of all the cold surfaces so again the sun is good. You can always keep it shadier in the hotter months.

Outside the towns public transport can be hit and miss. After an accident I wasn't able to drive for some time so got a bus to the local medical centre but always had trouble getting back and standing around waiting for a bus in the hot summer sun is not good for your health!

It can be the best move ever but its also true that its not for everyone so please don't buy before you are sure. Good luck!

Totally agree, i rented for two years. Was so glad I did, because, when I decided it was not for me, I just had to give a month's notice to my landlord and WiFi supplier. Friends who bought, are still there now because they need to sell their apartment.
