This sounds like just what I need here.  I have perennial weeds that I can't kill and every year I use gallons of Roundup at €62/5lit. trying to get rid of them  I have two big gravel areas that I would love to keep clear but I need to know if this stuff leeches sideways and would kil...

...l plants and trees nearby, in adjacent planted areas/beds. Any ideas?

Who sells the stuff?

Yes it creeps slowly but surely

And after a few yrs at least 2 m.albeit very weaker

I suppose you could spray a couple of metres sort of the border to compensate.  Where can you buy it?

The sons probably don’t want it as it may incur inheritance fees. Not sure but that might be why. More trouble and expense than it’s worth.

They are a wealthy family who don’t want the hassle. xxx

Good plan Premierone and a cheap solution too (no pun intended).  A bag of salt is only a few Euros.  Mix it up good and strong.

Don’t think that would help with olive tree etc, it grew as high as the bedroom last time, in all fairness he did have someone in to remove it but they didn’t remove the stump, said they had treated it because it is still growing.

As for purchase the best should be agricultural merchants

Just possible it might just be banned now due to it being used by terrorists in primitive bomb making

Nobody is giving this house away !  The owner is an obstinate old man and the sand bay say they don’t want the house but when the owner dies, they’ll take ownership. Simply put it into the hands of a solicitor and tell them to sell it. Solicitor Willie his share, the estate agent will get his share and the sons will take whatever is left.

Meanwhile , nobody plans to do anything about the garden so you either ignore it or get it cut back ( foul means or fair)

It is not salt

Sodium Chloride is

Chlorate is systemic and a residual herbicide

Which means it is absorbed thru

Follige

But more importantly resides in the soil for many years only very slowly depreciating

Plant roots take it up and thats what kills them

The only way to remedy is to excavate the contaminated soil 450 mm deep, remove off site to a licensed tip, then replace with fresh clean sub and topsoil

Warning it is also a high risk fire hazard and occasionally in some circumstances ( rare ) be explosive

Sadly after having tried to get Sodium Chlorate I have found it was banned in the EU in 2009 and you are not allowed to use it as a weedkiller.   So I doubt it's available.

It is however, used as a whitener in the manufacture of paper and is used by the thousands of tonnes. So if you know someone with a papermill, please let me know.

Cheers   CM
