Hello guys.

We wish to change our cooker hob from gas to electric. Do we contact Iberdrola? (who we pay our bill's to) .. or can we contact any gas technician to cap our gas supply? The only appliance we have that uses gas is our cooker hob and we wish to stop using gas.

Thanks for any advice.

Ian

Hi Ian,

Do you have bottled, deposit or mains gas?  In Spain, installed gas appliances, e.g. ovens, hobs, inset gas fires, have to be checked and certified as safe by a registered gas techician every 5 years, so probably the easiest thing to do is contact whoever does your certification renewal.

I think some may say that, as you're getting rid of the gas appliance and so long as you don't have a gas bottle attached at the other end, it shouldn't matter, but you may find whoever installs your new electric oven wants assurance that the gas supply has been capped, so you could ask your retailer.

Either way, you'll continue to be charged the gas surcharge that we're paying on our electricity bills, as that relates to the production of electricity, rather than gas consumption.  From memory, the gas surchage will continue until May 2023.

Kind regards,

Kim

Check your power bill as a usual household connection of 10A might be insufficient. In any case, for cooking and heating purposes bottled gas is notably cheaper than electricity. Avoid connecting electric devices adding up more than 4,5 KW at a time.
