I switched in Carrefour from Siesta Energy to Iberdrola. I was told costs were roughly the same, but Iberdrola appears to be more expensive. I forgot to find out if the switch is contracted for a fixed period, like a year (as is normal in IRL).  the rep didn't say that it was, but the devil might be in the small print!  I can ask, but just wondering if anyone knows what is normally the case in Spain?

Hi Declan,

Yes, usually a minimum period of 12 months.  Have you checked your Iberdrola bill for anything you weren't expecting?  The favourite one for new customers is to add 'insurance', but this is usually optional, so you can ask Iberdrola to remove it.  As you say, it will be in the small print.

Kind regards,

Kim

Thanks Kim, there's something on the bill," proteccion electrica hogar plus "  which translates as home electrical protection plus, it's not a huge amount of money, 4 Euro or so. Not sure what that is. Anyhow, when I'm in  Carrefour I'll ask if it's a yearly contract, and if there is insurance included. Thr bill kinda doubled and some. It could be the cold weather and having heating on.  Thanks for your help, and Feize Ano Nuevo!

Hi Declan,

Yes, that's the insurance I mentioned.

Just for info, we're with Iberdrola and our most expensive monthly bill is generally around double our cheapest monthly bill.

Feliz año! 😀

Best wishes,

Kim
