Hi all, can anyone explain why the public toilets at Los locos beach are being kept closed to the public ????
Hello
As far as I'm aware, there are no public toilets on Los Locos beach. There are some toilets belonging to the Chiringuito (beach bar) but you have to go to the bar staff for the key. ( they might be just for customer use)
Are these the ones you mean?
Cheers

Sorry I wasn't aware of that, I thought they were public toilets for the beach people, sorry for misleading anyone, I've used them in the past and automatically thought they were public toilets, sorry again, we just miss being able to use them, and thank you for your response, apologies again

Okay let's open a debate, is it possible that the local authorities provide public toilets for each end of Los Locos Beach and thank you to Elinspain & Grahamester for your local knowledge and input, now people let's debate, should we have public toilets provided

It's possible but this would need to be provided and maintainted by the the tax paying residents in the area.
The current situation is that it is paid for and maintained by the licensed chiringuito's for their customers. You buy a drink/ice cream and ask for the key.

Yes I understand that and it's a great idea, but most evenings the elderly arrive down to the beach to take in the evening and may require toilet facilities, would it not be an idea for the authorities to provide a public toilet that's always open perhaps locked up at 11oc at night after all these elderly have been paying there taxes for many years

I can't see that would happen as lately, on this forum, there have been a lot of complaints that money isn't being spent keeping the area clean and tidy so I can't imagine they would take on toilet cleaning and maintenance.

I disagree. The area where Los Locas is situated is Spanish and all around this area, the place is clean and tidy as far as I’ve seen. I comment to my husband about the bins always emptied and no rubbish lying about for very long.
The suggestion about public toilets is an interesting one. The beach bars and loungers etc., should all be removed this week and put into storage until Father’s Day next year. That being the case, there won’t be any toilets on the beach for anyone to use. I don’t think public toilets are a Spanish thing and cannot actually think of any that are open all year round other than in shopping centres.
I can’t see something that isn’t the norm being introduced anytime soon.
You’ll have to go for a coffee or refreshment and use the facilities there.

Your quite correct Grannyrose, this area at Los Locos Beach is a Spanish residential area, and the utilities are very good, but the area could do with public toilets and I thought that this could be a topic of conversation for all on this site, and if it could be talked up the authorities may pay attention

... attention
Have you approached the authorities about this subject?
Putting your argument on a expat forum will not really help to get the message through. Perhaps a local petition might help.
