Does anyone have information on when the Spanish border may reopen to people wishing to travel to Spain to their homes. We have recently secured an apartment to rent in Villajoyosa and would like to try and organise a loose timetable to travel.

It is almost irrelevant question to ask when the Spanish borders are open, the first question is when the UK will allow non essential travel.
Spanish borders are open to Spanish citizens and legal residents returning home.

If you go to www.elpaīs (in English) there is an article on this on the first page.
Very good Spanish newspaper that gives the correct information and updates that I use regularly.
I think you could probably count yourself lucky if you managed to get over much before August or September.
I wouldnt be expecting any cheap flights either.
