Hi all, looking for a bit of advice / feedback from you all with some knowledge of the area. We are looking to purchase a bolt hole, that we can pop to whenever we like (yes aware of the 90-day rule and that at the moment) for convenience our local airport is Newquay which flies to Alicante twice a week, so am thinking we are looking for a place either Alicante "North" or Alicante "south" a place which is not too touristy, close to nice beaches etc but are easy access to Alicante airport say 20 - 30 mins away ish.

I did read on a previous post on here not to go to Orihuela Costa as that person said they felt it has become run down and dirty?

so, suggestions please and feedback, started to look at places like Dona Pepa, La Marina,Villajoyosa,Elche,Elx,Santa Pola,La,Hoya, Ciudad Quesada.

I am swaying towards Alicante North, but unsure if the weather would be slightly better further south especially in the winter months.

would appreciate any positive or negative views or suggestions anyone might have. many thanks in Advance.

William

Can certainly recommend Villajoyosa from your list, but the main considerations are what type of property you are looking to buy and the location as a base for the sort of things you like doing.  House or flat?  Urbanisation or independent house?  Walking distance to the beach or town? Or somewhere in the mountains?

We bought in Finestrat old town a couple of years ago and our local UK airport is also Newquay.  Very happy so far and grateful to Mr O'Leary for keeping the Ryanair flights going twice a week.  We have a split life now between Cornwall and Costa Blanca - what could be better?

We live in Vila Joiosa, its very nice but you need to be careful where you choose because the old town is a very close netted community where they all know each other and you must abide by their rules they are very old fashioned and speak more Valencian than Spanish. However the beaches are fantastic, theres 3 trams stops and very regular buses. Lovely big park, if you have kids with you there's also 3 soft plays. Two Mercadonas and the lovely smell from the Valor chocolate factory. I would recommend it

Some very nice flats going up behind Torres beach, between Villajoyosa and La Cala (Finestrat beach), which will leave the beach itself and park behind it undeveloped.

If you want to be no more than 30 minutes from Alicante going south then you would need to be north of Torrevieja, so the Quesada (inc Dona Pepa), La Marina, El Raso, Benijofar, Rojales, Gran Alicant (very close to airport), Daya Vieja etc.  However you need to be clear about the type of property you would like and your budget as well as similar properties in different areas can vary quite a lot in price.  (Orihuela Costa is fine, still very popular, but over you 20-30 minute travel time from Alicante airport, about 40 minutes so roughly the same time from the airport as Villajoyosa.)

Its also nice here. Depending on how flexible you are, you might even consider Finestrat because the mountain views are fantastic but you would need your own transport
