I agree that what the FCO say but as already stated it is only an advisory and it's up to individuals to make their own risk assessment of the situation. As long as we all abide by the local government rules all should be well.

As for insurance, I asked my existing company if they covered the situation but they don't based on FCO advice. I therefore made enquiries with Battleface and after a few email exchanges I'm confident that I'm covered. It was approximately £56 for the two weeks I intend to stay.

The reason for my visit is for me to check the work my builders have done is completed to my satisfaction before I make final payment. They started in March and was about 8 weeks work which came to a swift halt due to COVID. I also need to get my residency application processed before the dreaded you know what.

Stay safe everyone.

The FCO advice is not to travel, it is advice not mandatory. I believe we have to start getting back to normal and getting on with our lives. Going to Spain or France should be no more dangerous than going shopping in Newark or Leicester, if people act properly and take all the usual precautions ...

...regarding hand-washing, sanitiser, masks. I would avoid high contagion areas in any country unless there are compelling reasons. The infection rates in the Costas are equal or less than most low risk UK locations. Anyone travelling MUST obey the local government rules in all countries, before and after travel.

That is my view, I don't believe I am ignorant or selfish but others may differ. The key is to act sensibly wherever you are. Apologies in advance my this view upsets anyone.

Rgds,

Aitch.

I agree. I am very sensible and responsible both in UK and Spain.  We cannot let fear rule us. We will get through this.

I am happy that you had a good holiday and your report was helpful.  I was wondering if your travel insurance was valid in Spain?  I suppose the EHIC card would still help if you were to fall ill, but the insurance is different.

Yes I have EHIC card which valid until year end. Let's hope the two governments come up with an exchange deal so we can both use each other's hospitals.  Also talk of visitors to Spain taking out health insurance. We shall see.  I was covered for Spain but very safe and well around my quiet apartment. No longer have a desire to go to busy night clubs and bars.

Dear Mr————-

Thank you for contacting us.

If you chose to travel to a country that the FCO have advised against all but essential travel to you are still fully covered by your travel insurance whilst abroad. You will be covered for medical expenses up to £10,000,000 per person and this would also include covering you if you were to contract covid 19 while on holiday.

Any other queries, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

We got insurance through Rock Insurance and also I think Staysure which covers you and includes Covid 19.  If you already have insurance you could take out insurance for just this trip. Might be worth doing search of internet to find travel insurers who cover you for Spain plus Covid 19.&nbs...

...p;

Hi Pauline,

Was interested to read your reply as we have annual cover with Rock, and had paid our premium before any travel restrictions came into place, but after Covid had been identified. Some six weeks after making payment we had a message to say we were not covered for Covid.  I have treid several times to call them, the call just gets disconnected.  I have emailed them and had to wait about 6 weeks for a reply, which totally ignored my question as to the legality of introducing restrictions after renewal.

Have you actualy spoken to them and been told you are covered?  Maybe you have taken out a new type of policy that mentions Covid by name as part of the cover?

Thanks

Julie
