Hi all,

I am looking to buy and be in by September. I’ve sold my house in the UK and will be putting stuff in storage there until I move. I have lots of new white goods and was wondering if I don’t buy a place with them included should I bring my stuff from the UK. I’m including TV’s in this.

Any do or do not bring advice would be great.

Thanks T

Just change the plugs to Spanish ones and off you go.

I was hoping that was the answer. Thank you.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

I’d normally agree but all of my stuff is only a year old.

NO, NO, NO!

You should NEVER EVER use an adapter unless there is no other option and in practice the only things that will apply to will be the small 3 pin plug in power supplies/chargers typically provided for portable electronic devices.

If you MUST use one for something which is not double insulated or has metal parts (requires an earth in other words so has a 3 core cable) then it's IMPERITIVE to make ABSOLUTELY SURE that the adapter you use does in fact have an earth pass through, many if not most do not and therefore pose a risk of shock or electrocution.

Certainly NEVER use one for any electrical device which draws more than a few hundred Watts of power which completely rules out kettles, washing machines, dryers, etc, in essence pretty much anything with a heating function.

One important point to consider when bringing white goods over is that problems are quite likely to arise when it comes to servicing, spare parts, and repairs.

Thanks Movingon, I have removed my post as I was unaware of the danger of using an adapter.

Hi

I bought everything with me as the last thing i wanted to do was shop in the heat for all the goods i needed or wait in for someone to deliver then.

Plugs have been changed. I also bought new bedroom furniture from ikea. Flat packed.

Please explain to me, as I don’t understand, how changing existing Spanish two pin sockets for UK three pin sockets is not dangerous? The Spanish wiring system is different I understand to the UK system?

You can do an online calculation of the costs on removal companies websites. I can personally recommend Howells.
