We did pay by credit card, but bank doesn’t want to know as we are in possession of goods, although they are totally useless .At least 5 times too small
Surely if you return the goods and get a certificate of postage the credit card company should then reclaim your money back from the company by raising a dispute. Check with them first but I see no reason why not.

Ì bought a folding table that we could bring for a picnic from Amazon . It cost 40 euro. Ì got a message from Amazon asking if I was happy with my purchase. I never received the table. Ì tried to contact them but couldn't. They do what they like ...

...and the customer is nobody. I'll never touch Amazon again. Or was it the postal service somewhere " misplaced " it. I've heard it said that sometimes when you think you are getting a bargain you might end up paying twice. That's me.
I have bought loads of things from Amazon I have never had trouble with returns get on to them via chat if its not to late explain whats wrong they will be more than happy to help.

This was not a Amazon purc
So where did you buy them from, if you only give half the facts people can only reply with past experiences.
For instance i made two purchases on face book all looked quite genuine, once I paid I found out the company was based in China, I got a never ending tracking number firstly to my address in Torrevieja, when I never received my items I contacted the seller who sent me another tracking number this time saying it was sent to Alicante and told me my address was incomplete and it had been returned to them but they would send me another if I paid $10 postage. I always pay by PayPal and I always take a screen shot on my iPad of every transaction I make on both occasions I received my money back.
Lesson learned I will never buy from China or off face book again.
I use Amazon.es and have found them to be excellent but if I see it’s coming from China I will not purchase.

Before joining the Common Market it was always the case
with goods exported from the UK that if you completed the
required paperwork HM Customs would refund the
purchase tax. This applied even to fuel being used on
international flights (Known at the time as fuel drawback)
I am in the throes of restoring a 1971 VW Westfalia but
since the advent of Brexit have almost entirely given up
buying parts, new or second hand on the UK websites
because VAT 20% ? is applied at the UK end followed by 21% IVA on arrival in
Spain plus shipping. There is also a delay at this end because
the IVA has to be paid before the goods can be released.
Interestingly when I order something from China although it may take 3 months to
to get here it comes duty free with free shipping via a Warehouse in Madrid.
I contacted one of the UK "parts specialists" who advised that I had
to pay the VAT but gave me no explanation.
I have friends in the diving fraternity who sent some equipment
under warranty back to UK only to find they had to pay 200 euros IVA
to recover that equipment after repair.
That was as much as it cost in the first place. Needless to say my friends
declined to pay. I'm not sure exactly what the item was but it will
no doubt be up for auction shortly by Spanish Customs
I have now found a source in Germany for the bits and pieces I need.
