I have been familiarising myself with the Residencia appointments booking system and checking each day for the last week or so to see what appointments are available in Alicante region (thanks to Jim for the incredibly useful step by step instructions how to do this). There doesn't seem to be any...

... kind of pattern, rhyme or reason as to what you are offered or when. Here are the specifics:

17th June - Denia (18th June)

18th June - Benidorm or Torrevieja (both 19th June)

19th June - Denia (18th or 19th July)

20th June - No appointments available

21st June - Benidorm or Elda (both 26th June)

24th June - No appointments available

25th June - Elche (30th August) or Denia (19th July)

Some of the days I checked in the morning and afternoon and there were occasions where appointments were available in the morning but not available in the afternoon, but never the other way round so I'm guessing they are released in the morning.

I did approach a "professional" (recommended on this forum) who told me I would need to sign up with their service quick as appointments were already booked up into September, which told me all I needed to know.

We won't arrive in Spain until the end of August so I will keep checking every few days (want to get everything sorted before Brexit Halloween!) Give me a shout if you want an update without the bother of going through the form yourself.

Thanks very much Robin - a nice methodical approach confirming what I've found when I've done random checks.

What we need now is volunteers to walk into every national police station in the Valencian Community and ask if it's possible to submit a residency application to them; with or without an appointment; and when that can be done.

Any volunteers?

Good idea Jim, that would be really useful.

As far as the original post from Nicola goes, it is possible to conclude that anyone claiming to have booked an appointment for you 3 months in advance and it being cancelled at the last minute may not have actually booked it at all (as this doesn't appear to be possible). Also that professionals/Gestors may lie to you to secure your business (as the one I contacted appears to have done - either that or they don't just don't use the appointments system regularly, which is possibly worse!)

It probably varies in areas but our solicitor told friends who wanted residencia that no appointments would be possible until after brexit!

It seems that the best thing is to collect as much proof as you can that you are actually residing here, and from when and also to get proof of your attempts to get an appointment, maybe print out screenshots of no appointments being available online or approaching the relevant office in person and asking for something in writing if you are unsuccessful.
There is still the odd post confirming some are still getting Residencia but it is not always clear if they are from the UK, how they got it or where.
Although anything is still possible, so far Spain are making all the right noises but most of it depends on everything being reciprocal.

Hi

My partner works outside of Spain so we needed a Spanish bank showing 7500 euros per person. I presume it’s your earnings if you work in Spain.

We also needed a statement with both our names on showing history so use of debit card in Spanish shops - I think that’s 6 months we got 12. Also some Spanish bank statements don’t have your name on so you need to specifically request that.

But we used Victoria Scott who advised us of everything we needed because different offices have different rules

I checked on Wednesday, and could have had an appointment at Alicante or Denia.

And if your solicitor had checked with Orihuela police he'd probably have got an appointment there or at Playa Flamenca.

hey fellow Scot...we had to prove 8k in the bank...we got private medical for a year which is not strictly needed but they say it smooths the path...1 years bank statements to prove income or pension...and see Jims posts for more details...Padron was instant in Catral and Residencia was in 3 weeks in Alcoy as if you travel you get an appointment quicker...use a good Abogado if you are in a hurry or unsure...
