Hi Brandon,

Not being able to drive might hamper your chances of meeting up with others. If you are in town, it will be a little easier. You can stroll along the high street, choose a bar where young people tend to meet up and start a conversation! I have found that lots of them love to speak English with people their age!

Are you going to try and get a job here?

Are you with family?

Anyway, keep us informed how  and what you are doing 🙂

Good luck,

Janice

Hi Brandon,

There are lots of English & English-speaking people here in Villena and the surrounding areas like Caudete, Las Virtudes, Yecla, and so on, but lots of us are probably the same age as your parents!

It is not going to be easy for you unless you learn Spanish.  Most towns have Adult Education Schools teaching Spanish, but in theory classes start up in September, after prior application.

I have a daughter around your age and she is now quite fluent in Spanish although her first language is Italian, and she worked hard at learning Spanish. She also already had a European driving licence and car which means she can travel to jobs.

Get your family to bring you to the Rastro (flea market!) in Caudete to meet up with lots of other British people who are stallholders or customers. Have a coffee or whatever and a chat and you might get a few ideas. Ask for me! I’m there! We open Saturdays & Sunday’s from 10am to 2pm.

Janice

That's actually a positive thing because it's forcing you to learn Spanish. Most English don't learn because they are only ever with British people. Enjoy it and show us how it's done 😃😃😃😃
