General discussion for house renovation

Hi Marie, although we are non residents, we,ve had a house in Los Cabezos about 2kms from Villena on road to Caudete for 13yrs. We now stay March to June and Sept to Dec, so in UK at present. If you are in Las Virtudes there are lots of Brits there and they get together on a Sunday late afternoon/evening at the cafe bar in Las Virtudes. There are 3 bars there, on a tuesday morning 10.30 on, ladies from the area meet up(I,m one when there) in the bar The 3 Kings on the left as you drive into the village. I have never found a expat meeting area in Villena itself. One of the ladies there is called Sarah(coffee morning tuesday, not on Sundays) and her husband Ian has done some work for us. He does a fair job for 100€ day but he is slow working. I cant honestly recommend anyone else as I,ve had trouble finding a decent worker myself. If you want to speak privately send me pm.

Hi Pauline....thanks for your reply.  We are coming over tomorrow to get the keys and Deeds as we only bought the Finca last week and the lawyers did all the signing up for us.  This is a fair renovation job so we will be back in Feb. to draw up some plans and have a good look at the place.  We mainly bought it for the land and lovely views.  I’ll get in touch again in Feb. when we will be able to assess what work needs to be done.  Thanks again for all the info.

Whereabouts are you?

Hi..We are in Villena.  Just bought a Finca.  Picking up keys tomorrow, drawing up plans and returning home the next day.  Coming back to Spain in February when we hope to meet up with people from the area re renovations etc.

Thanks for contacting us and perhaps we can meet up early next year to gather up any advice that’s going.

Hi Marie,  Villena is a big area, I meant what part of Villena is your house, or perhaps until you have the address via deeds you may not know it. Are you buying for holiday use or permanancy? We are coming over on 8th March for 3mnths, maybe we can meet up then? Good luck with your purchase.

Hi Pauline.......we are getting the Deeds tomorrow so I don’t know exact address yet but know it is south of the city and under 10 mins walk to it which suits me fine!

We are thinking of permanent residence once we get the house livable as it could be a bit cold looking at the stars all night.......exaggerating a little bit but only just!

Hi Marie, we see you are looking for competent workmen for renovating your newly bought villa. Pauline has recommended Ian. We have had Ian do a fair amount of work for us as we have also just bought a villa here (in Sax, near Villena).  We must say his work is excellent, and have not found him a slow worker, but very thorough.
We highly recommend him. He and his wife Sarah have been incredibly helpful to us. His prices are excellent and he is very reliable.
