It will be helpful to other readers if you can give a rundown of the procedure and cost when you are completed.

They will also handle all your taxation forms etc.

Do not pay anybody any money for something so easy that only costs €10.71..

Download and print out all your required forms here - http://suitelife.com/blog/barcelona-real-estate/how-to-get-a-spanish-nie-number-its-kind-of-a-big-deal/

BTW - there is an English version of the EX-18 which makes it very easy to fill in the required EX-18 form in Spanish..

In Benidorm there is also a waiting list of about 1-2 months to actually get the appointment.

Everything is explained on the website..

You might here about the new decree of "free healthcare" but that does not apply to you. In order to become considered a "resident" you will still need a zero-deductible, private insurance policy - equal to what the Spanish health care system gives tax paying residents. This is a requirement for all persons wanting to become resident in Spain. Unlike the UK, you cannot just move here and become a burden on the state.

Sadly, the insurance companies policies will be for 1 year, so you will have to purchase a 1 year policy and make sure to - in writing - cancel this policy when you become eligible for the state heath care system. It used to be 2 months in advance of renewal but maybe 1 month now for the cancellation lettre....

This "free" healthcare is also a political scheme and the government could change in a heartbeat and so with it, this free heathcare..

Hi Ray.... Firstly we have no intention of becoming " a Burden on the State " . One part of the article that I understood was the bit about the UK still paying for British Pensioners Healthcare in Spain. Secondly I am still not clear why I need to take out Health Insurance ? and at what point does the Free Healthcare become Active ?     Chris

If you are receiving UK pension you are entitled to healthcare covered by the S1 form,  no problem. You do not need any other healthcare cover. The S1 covers all dependants as well.

Hopefully, with a no-deal Brexit this S1 will not be paid for by the UK government for deserters from the "homeland" . Could go the same way as the WFA is currently not paid to Brits, legally living in Spain, France, Italy.. The UK will need to save loads of GBP and the S1 will be the easiest option and not affect the voters who put the politians in office..
