For those who stood to be most affected by Brexit, and the end of the transition period in particular, one potential consequence of the current crisis is that despite his insistence that he won't I can foresee Boris being forced to extend it.

Trade talks, already on an impossibly tight time schedule, have been suspended and with a threatened (although probably empty) 'drop dead' date of June if ever there was a time for unity and cooperation with the EU then surely it's now!

Extending would cost nothing, not even a loss of face as nobody could have predicted what has happened. Also real or fake the infamous €350m/wk is coming off the €37bn divorce settlement so there is no additional cost on that score.

Is he big enough to do it, let's see, demonstrably his principles are flexible enough that's beyond any question.

Remember where you heard this first!

I've been thinking for the past week or so, that, due to the present pandemic, extending the Transistion period is now virtually an inevitability  !

Hi Les, Particularly, all these "negotiators" huddling together & associating in groups, whilst the proletariat (hopefully) sit out the "lockdown" (however it lasts) ,there may be nothing to negotiate or transit:

hope you are well!

Hi Vllas, I am ok ,thank you for asking, and hopefully you, yours, and all forum members are staying safe and well .

In regards to planning anything at present, the only certain thing anyone can predict is uncertainty !

Time only, will tell.

The individual EU countries have shut their borders to travellers from all other EU countries as well as the UK, only the UK borders remain open to our European friends. Not really what the European dream was meant to be but catastrophic events generally mean countries revert to looking after themselves.

Rgds,

Aitch.

Of much more interest to those of us resident in Spain are the deliberations of the joint committee, to cover all the topics not covered in the withdrawal agreement. The inaugural meeting was due to take place at the end of this month, but I doubt that will happen.

I believe they've agreed to keep borders within the bloc open (but still controlled) but deny entry to no EU citizens.

RayD . No not my keyboard.  Under strict instructions from Villas, I have simply been busy stocking up from Iceland . Snake and Sidney pies abound in my Freezer. 😀

Interesting  point regarding the negotiating teams.
