Evening  everyone,

Our first post so try to keep it  short. We have  spotted a lovely  house outside Alcoy and planning  on moving early 2019, what is the weather like in the winter months? Are there any English expat groups / clubs in the area for initial support.. We are over next week  for final look around before  committing.

Thanks

Vince

Winters here are milder and shorter than the UK, it´s the construction of many of the properties that make it feel much colder than it is. Many are built much like a UK garage, insulation wise, to keep the sun out in the much longer and hotter summers.
Search "heating", "Everywhere" to get more of an idea.
Don´t let it put you off, it´s beautiful here.

We have a place near Muro just up the road from Alcoy. We are quite high up living in a beautiful valley. You get sun quite a lot in the deep winter days and you can even sit out. It gets cold at night but indoor wood burners, gas heaters,  rugs and throws keep the house cosy.

You will freeze to death in the winter.  There are very few expats: few supermarkets whose names that you recognise: nobody speaks English: a long way to medical help.  Whatever possessed you to think of settling there?

That's not 100% correct lol there are expats in the area and I know of 2 "groups" that meet regularly. Its probably best to mix with the locals though and i find spanish folk friendly and happy to help if you at least try to speak the lingo and quite a few do speak English. It's beautiful area

Good evening Vince,

Sorry for late reply...We are moving In Muro not far at all from Alcoi. We have researched and researched for the last 2 years, and we found Alcoi, Muro and the environments are beautiful!... you would be in Spain!... indeed in Spain... and guess what?... you would be surprised how many Expats we ate!... well me I am not but my heart is British!... my Wife is !... am French... and leaves in England for the last 33 years!!!.. so yes my heart is British!!!😉....

anyway, we have met some very nice British people here and they said the evenings are cold but nothing to compare with UK!.,, at least in the Summer, you won’t suffer of the heat in the night!!

Good Luck to you All and perhaps in a few month time, we will all meet up!!

Kindest & warm wishes!.... Serge & Julie

There are quite a few ex pats and obviously youve never heard of consum carrefour and even aldi. Its not much colder than the costas in winter.  Its also nice to live with and get to know Spanish people and in the towns and the country around Alcoy they are the nicest friendliest people I have met.
