UK had the opportunity but....During the Amsterdam Intergovernmental Conference in 1997, all EU member states except the United Kingdom and Ireland signed the Schengen Agreement. (However, the latter two requested participation in some aspects of it, including, later on, parts of the Schengen Information System). It was during those negotiations, which led to the Amsterdam Treaty, that the incorporation of the Schengen acquis into the main body of European Union law was agreed. The Schengen acquis included the Schengen Agreement of 1985, the Schengen Convention of 1990, as well as various decisions and agreements adopted for Schengen’s implementation.

I see. Hm.

What a waste really. Am from Norway, not member of the EU, but the EEC. Schengen. We could not survived without that. Are not that independent at all. With the geografy, climate...everything. Fishermen/ women in the northern part of Norway? No.

And of course, one of the richest little countries in the world. Cause of the oil, gas which is exported to other countries, to a high price I think. And everything in Norway is so expensive that.... most people can not visit. A shame. And this government we have now, hope for change in September, is not making things easier for MOST people. Rich getting richer, poor getting poorer. We do lack a Robin Hood figure!
