dogs in apartments
Hi,I have a greyhound of 25kg.
I would like to buy an apartment in the "Mercado" district of Alicante.
are there any rules/ regulations which would stop me from bringing him over? he has a valid passport :-)

Though there is no clear regulation, pets are usually not tolerated in rentals, public transport, bars and restaurants, beaches etc. Just from the weight your dog would be considered as "dangerous" requiring special insurance and an "owners license" as well as being reistered in a special register You must also produce proof of qualification to handle dangerous dogs.
our vet advised that our labrador wouldn't be considered a dangerous dog and she weighs 29kg (dog not vet). I've found lists of what are considered dangerous dogs and also been advised to check at the local town hall.
personally we decided on a townhouse as we have a dog just so she can go outside when she needs/ wants to.
our community can't forbid dogs but there are some noisy ones at times which border on the anti social.

Nearly all apartments in an apartment block belong within a "Community" which has strict rules. There will be a community president and possibly an administrator who will be expected to enforce the community rules.
So, having said that, you will need to find out if pets of any type are allowed to live within the community.

Hello,
I read your post a while ago and was shocked at other people's comments. However, I do not live in the area and have only just bought an apartment in the city so did not think I had anything to offer. However, I think it will be a good idea for you to look into it further, maybe some areas are different to others.
While we were in the city dogs were in the supermarkets, at restaurants, on the tram, in the local shops, in the parks. There were lots of little dogs but we also came across some larger dogs.
This post has stayed in my mind because any time we have been to the city areas, dogs have seemed to be loved an accepted. Like I say, I am not an expert and do not understand the laws properly. We have visited the areas 9 times and just bought a property, everyone seems to love dogs. Maybe worth just checking out things a bit further.
Hope this is useful, even though I don't really have any answers.

Hi Donna ,thanks for your reply. I have continued to look into this and it seems that my greyhound fits the Spanish description of a "dangerous dog".I would require a special licence, third party insurance and would be required to prove that I could "handle a dangerous dog".wanting to live in Alicante he would stand out like a sore thumb, because as you say small dogs are more common.I think my move will have to wait.

On no. That is a shame.
Good luck in the future.
