Disgraceful, I agree. I am publishing this behaviour so others can take heed.
By the way it would be easy to claim on my insurance but that is not the point: ultimately all our premiums go up to fund the dishonest behaviour of Goldcar.

I would also say that Goldcar show their colour by telling you they are going to steal your money from a "no-reply" email address. They give the impression they want to make it as difficult as possible for you to discuss the issue with them.

Well, just to balance the arguement I have never had a problem with Goldcar after a dozen or so bookings. Yes you have to have the 1200 or so “reserve”on your credit card if you don’t take their insurance but I don’t think that’s unreasonable. As with all of these companies, make sure you check the car thoroughly against their version of “faults”before you leave. Until I suffer a problem with them, I will continue to recommend.

I value your contribution. Thanks. I agree that 1200 EUR is not unreasonable as a bond. But it should not be abused. After 15 years of hiring in Spain my bond has not been abused before.
Their version of faults was rather big. Approx twice as many sections were damaged than sections that weren't. And then they got me on the wheels (which don't seem to be candidates for an X or, if they are, then there should have been Xs in all of them.
Also this car was not washed or vacuumed before collection and we picked it up from the 3rd floor, not the normal 2nd floor for Goldcar.
Of course everybody's view is valid but my experience this time and last was negative.
Not sure how they work out their repair costs, just had a quote to repair and paint three doors sill and rear bumper for 500eu.

They probably don’t get the repairs done, just take the money and leave the “damage” for the next unlucky hirer to get fleeced too....vicious circle stars again..!
