Yes of course. You may have to revert to sign language but it's doable. We did ours (a long time ago) by ourselves at the Playa Flamenca town hall. Just make sure you complete the application form correctly and there are lots of threads on advice on how to fill them in.

Use Google Chrome to access the appointment procedures and it will automatically translate to English for you and tell you what forms you need, how to pay the tax and so on.

Hello

My NIE was issued years ago at Elche Police Station and a translator was invaluable.

Instructions were given to people waiting outside, where to stand then where to go inside, then questions were asked at the desk when docs were presented.

For what I payed it was worth every euro.  Good Luck with your application.

Cheers

A false economy IMO, with the right Gestor it shouldn't cost more than €30 or €40.

Quite likely quicker too as they sometimes have access to appointments which mere mortals don't!

Presuming you are non resident and Irish from your name, and travel back and forth,

Much handier and quicker to get it back home in Dublin from consulate. All in, from making appointment online, attending at consulate and receiving email with NIE was 11 days and €8
