Read this post with interest. It is so much a personal decision based on ones own family and your detailed knowledge of your children...a question to honestly ask yourself....are you going to Spain to satisfy your own ambitions and you're hoping your children "fit in" and develop. Our do you believe the move will genuinely benefit your children in terms of education and future life style and career opportunities. Bit of heart searching needed here....good luck what ever your decision is and happy new year.

Good post above.

What I have noticed in all the years of running the Spanish forums is when the majority of those 'thinking' of relocating to Spain ask questions, they don't really want to know the reasons why not to do it,  they only really  want the positives and deep down most have made their decision already and will not be swayed by negative comments and will latch on hard to the positives ones.

Yes there are many positives.... but as RoyM says above, when there is the future of younger people to think about it is not such an easy decision.  What works for some children as they grow up will not work for all.

We often have people ask about certain areas and if it's a good place for them in their situation to relocate to and the answers are not always what they want to hear but in most cases they have made their mind up, even found a property they like and in the end they latch on to the one or two comments that suits them and go ahead anyway.

Moving to Spain completely is a massive commitment at any time and those that seem to do well (who seem to be happy) generally are youngish retirees with pensions (too old and they sometimes need to go back or want to go back after a few years or so for health or other reasons). Those with under school age children too often find it works well as the kids can integrate into Spanish schools and society much easier. Whether the parents can get the decent jobs they want and need is not always so easy though.

I wouldn't want to make the decision myself and know it must be difficult but I believe a broad view should be taken.

Think about eventualities in advance - The things that could change in the future.

Yes,after reading all I must say this has been long desire of mine and my husband's to live in sun and have life without joining crowd in London's rush hours.......my children will be just to happy to leave tomorrow.

I am not afraid of hard work or starting again (came to UK years ago) but my big worry is to leave children behind (when they grow up) .

We could not move when children were little as we weren't financially ready and now there is worry that this will effect their future.....

Since I have joined  this forum and thanks to you all I have realised that buying property in Spain is one thing But speaking Spanish is absolutely essential .We are now all studying hard (for last couple of days) and hoping to find answer as we go along.
