Hi Salim,
Yeah that’s a new charge from Bankia since February. All real world banks have increased charges recently, but Bankia seems at the higher end. They have a few options for cheaper banking - you have to buy some of their products or have regular deposits. I think they are on the Bankia website. Other posts on here talk about much cheaper online banking options, and I think Jim’s Guides refer to other real world options.

Incorrect on "if you put your monthly pension in, and are a resident, they require you to take out a third service to get free banking". I am with Sabadell, resident and pay my pension in, no need for another service to get free banking.

Ray, I know all the Banks did this but if you read my post I was saying that it was not necessary to take out a third service with just my pension being paid into my account.

Legendary helpful member
The Bankia Ts & Cs are here:
We had to take credit cards to continue with free banking and, at the point of requesting those, we asked that they be set up so the full outstanding balance is paid off automatically each month.
If we get fed up having to remember to use the credit cards twice a month each, or I get fed up with problems reconciling transactions on my bank account program, then we'll switch to the free online-only account.

Thanks to all for the information on bank charges.Looks like I have a battle on my hands with Bankia.I have cancelled all the direct debits with them and moved them to the new entry to the market Transferwise which allows direct debits and the euro account is very easy to set up.
Another question Is it possible to pay for the bankia mortgage without having a bankia euro current account?I am thinking of using transferwise.
Thanks again

You might need to actually check with Bankia as it might have been a condition of the mortgage that you had a current account with them.

I will have to go into Bankia when I am back in Spain after the lockdown.I have tried to communicate with Bankia on their online app plus emailing individual staff of whom i have the email address. But up to now I have had no response in weeks.I am surprised judging from the forum that the expatriates have accepted this unfair charge when there are options out there where there are big savings to be made.
Thanks for your help.it is greatly appreciated.

Many of us are not affected by the change as we get free banking as Residents when we pay our pensions into the Spanish Bank accounts.

Thanks John. That explains why there is not that much of an uproar.
