Thanks John

I will have to go into Bankia when I am back in Spain after the lockdown.I have tried to communicate with Bankia on their online app plus emailing individual staff of whom i have the email address. But up to now I have had no response in weeks.I am surprised judging from the forum that the expatr...

Thanks for your help.it is greatly appreciated.

Apart from the high charges, lack of communication was one of the reasons I closed my account and opened a euro account with Starling.  Never regretted it. No charges and able to contact them very easily!

Salim, I have written many replies regarding my change to Cajamar bank last year, which after researching all banking options, chose as a fee free online account for non residents and I,m very happy to say I havent paid a cent in fees since March 2019. Please read their website(in english) and no...

Hi All. We too were with Bankia and just before lockdown went to Caja Mar to open new accounts, just last week we went back to collect our cards. This week we went to Bankia to close our account, we were told there we have to make an appointment first, she then directed us to cashier and we withdrew our cash. All very civilised, but you cannot walk in  just like before all queries that you have are by appointment.. So very happy with Caja Mar.

I can also vouch for Starling.......so far so good. Easy to setup, use and transfer funds with the normal current account and Euro account.

I'm still with Sabadell as it's easier at the moment.  I just pay a regular amount into the account every month and all is good.

I'm just waiting for someone to advise how they get on with transferring all the direct debits without grief!

I tried Starling and liked it but not all of the companies would accept the GB IBAN for DD's and I wonder if that will get more of a problem with Brexit. I opened a Transferwise borderless account which gives you a BE IBAN and have had no problems with any DD.

Thanks for that information Pauline, I'm going to change to Cajamar when I next go over. They should be paying you commission.
