I was thinking of moving but not working , I realise it will be an upward battle with the paperwork , but you have to be sure you have the money in the bank .

The healthcare would be interesting to know more about though . I read it had to be spanish but what options are there and what does that cost ? With Covid I suspect packages will be more expensive .

Let us know how you get on

Hi elinspain

Thank you, I shall give it a read.

I will be coming with hopefully a healthy bank account, I will not have employment but will be coming with several skills, do you think this would work or do you need to have employment before entering?

Best wishes

Sara

Hi residents of the UK are now classed as TCN (3rd country nationals), if you are

appling applying for a non lucrative visa you are not allowed to work. As stated already there are now more stringent requirements, however that should not put you off. I am a dual citizen UK/Canada so am aware of the process.

Hi

Thank you for your reply.

I have googled requirements for Spanish residency and it looks pretty straightforward?

I will be selling my property in England, so the plan is to buy somewhere in Benidorm and hopefully have enough left to live on.

I will take a look at the Spain Tips and Guides

Sara

Do you have a NIE  number , first step .

Hey Sara, good luck for you!! If this crisis Corona is getting better, I‘m going to live aswell at Costa Blanca!  I‘ll Star there first for several weeks to figure out, what my place  to live will be. Why you‘ve choosen Benidorm? Are you going to retire?

Benidorm is a great place to live especially for retirees. Plenty of places to visit and hundreds of good bars and restaurants. Benidorm is not always like its portrayed on the TV as there are some nice areas to live especially on the outskirts of the city. The beaches are renowned for their cleanliness and safety and transport links are second to none.

Hi Sara

I was going to move to Spain this year either Benidorm or Torrevieja. As other members on here who live in Spain have kindly been keeping us updated since Brexit, the process and requirements are now more complicated. Because of the Covid situation as well I’m ruling 2021 out and if possible will holiday for few weeks at a time to recki more this year.

I have done a lot of research and every other day am looking at properties in both Benidorm and Torrevieja, I have been quite a few times and like both resorts equally, you do get lot more for your money in Torrevieja. After seeing various programs on tv about caravan sites the lifestyle did appeal to me BUT for me personally I feel the fees are dead money, over a period of 10 years you can expect to pay between €30.000 - €40.000 plus of course the cost of your caravan!  Which as another member rightly pointed out you can rent a 2 bedroom apartment for the same amount.

My aim is to eventually buy a property outright even if a smaller one when things have settled, also one would hope that the Spanish government will ease certain requirements especially for expats to retire there (with private health care) time will tell.

My advice is to when we’re able to, go out and rent short term (up to 90 days) incidentally if you holiday rent,  although a bit more expensive for say 30 - 60 days at a time you wouldn’t need to open Spanish bank accounts and get references etc. As you will be a tourist, I’m going to do this first when the time is right before buying there.

Two of my closet friends who are retired are putting there plans on hold for the same reasons.

Hope this helps and good luck
