Hi, my daughter and I are exploring possibilities for moving to Benidorm/Alicante region from U.K. I am retired although still teach as a volunteer so reasonably straightforward, but my daughter needs to work.

She is a qualified veterinary nurse of nearly 30 years but been running her own business as a pet behaviourist trainer for 12 years, very  successful with referrals from vets and private clients.

We are trying to decide on best route for her, is her field of work classified as highly necessary in Spain for her to get a job or if staying self employed better, but need to earn enough to do that?
We would appreciate any thoughts on best routes to take

Thank you

If you want to move to Spain permanently as a retiree you would need to apply for a non lucrative visa. You would need to prove that you have an income of around 28,800 euros per annum and full healthcare which can be covered by applying for the S1 healthcare scheme which is paid for by the UK government.

Here is a full guide to the non lucrative visa:

Your daughter would need to apply for and get a contracted position before applying for a work visa. In Benidorm at the moment there are many veterinary practices to whom she could apply.

All available work in Spain must be offered to an EU citizen first by law. If no-one is available throughout the EU to fill the available position then someone suitable outside the EU could be offered the position.

Self employment is a very expensive option which would need to be investigated in depth.

If  UK  passport holders  it is now difficult  to retire  to Spain,  Brexit made the changes, or if you have  any Irish  family  connections  and get Irish  passport  it a lot easier

It  a very common  topic  on this forum,  it amazing  how many  UK citizens  don't  realise  the impact  of Brexit  at this  stage,  it not just Spain  it EU and Schengen rules

Just to add to the helpful information posted by tebo53, it is important to note that the UK vetinary qualifications your daughter holds may not be recogonised in the EU since Brexit.
