I find some things in spain are way more expensive than ireland, marg for instance own brand is €1.50 in Spain in Ireland it is 89c,cheese,bread,fruit,veg,cooked ham, potatoes all more expensive in spain

Numbeo, com provides direct comparisons between countries. There are exceptions, of course (maybe moreso in some parts of Spain), but overall shopping in Ireland seems to be significantly more expensive.

I’m not sure how you are making your comparisons. I find Spain cheaper than Ireland, and this is supported by any actual data I have seen. I don’t shop in GB, but the comparison data are more reliable than one person’s experience.

The comparison data is probably an EU post Brexit concoction,my experience, having lived between UK,Ireland  and Spain, you can throw in France,Germany and Portugal ,is that the UK is cheapest for all vitals in terms of vegetables, meat, eggs and the like, second comes Ireland for the same and the rest is a lottery but Spain is expensive for the same ,vegetables and meats and fruit, including bananas!

I guess it’s a question of personal anecdote vs data.

Edit: the comparison was between Ireland and Soain so Brexit would not be a relevant factor.

Depends what you are buying ,drink ,cigarettes ,Ireland is the place to avoid but vegetables, meats ,porridge,(99cents a kilo)Spain €3.95 a kilo,Pasta is another item,€0.80,Spain €3.0.and so it goes on,and the UK is cheaper still, relatives regularly travel north to stock up on shopping, and incidentally booze .

Again, the site I referenced has nothing to do with social media.

Alcohol  is cheaper in NI because they don’t have minimum unit pricing like they do in the Republic. There was supposed to be a coordinated approach to this but unfortunately Brexit intervened.

Doesn't matter, you believe whatever suits you ,I take everything, statistically with a pinch of salt, and rely on my own experiences ,as statistics can prove whatever you you want proving.

I usually use the Consum for my shopping when I come over however with everything going up I’m considering using the new Aldis. Are they much cheaper than other supermarkets as they are in the UK. Any comments would be welcome.

Cheers

Clive

Hi, I have a Mercadona and Aldi near me and I find some things cheaper in Mercadona, although only by a few cents, so use both shops for my shopping.  There is a Lidl a short drive away and they seem to be the cheapest of all of them.
