Fair point Jam about the plane ride ... perhaps Steve could alert them ahead of time so they allocate a seat away from others or they can let him know where he stands .

I,ve already contacted the airline I don't have to wear a mask on the plane, just need to show them my medical cert off my Dr, I am sure they will accommodate any one who does not want to sit near me.

Hi Jam - unfortunately, wearing a mask is not only to protect yourself, but also others in close proximity to you. If you are flying over, then you will have to wear a mask on the plane, as this is mandatory for everybody. I wouldn’t feel comfortable at all sitting next to somebody who is not w...

With air circulation within the plane I don’t think it really matters.

I beg to differ, if somebody sitting behind or next me on an airplane, without a mask, and then has a coughing or sneezing fit, don't you think these particles could be deposited onto myself or anybody else in close proximity?

Contacted the Spanish consolate. Under section 2a anyone with a breathing difficulty is exempt. So to anybody out there with the same problem you need to get a medical certificate off your Dr, signed & stamped & dated, then get it translated into Spanish. Plus seriously do you not think that if I was coughing or sneezing that I would not be catching it in a tissue, & have a plastic bag on my person to dispose of it, plus do you not think with my condition that I am not spot on with my hand hygiene. So sad that some people out there do not understand.

Hi Jam

I do recognise that you do understand the dangers, and am sure that you probably take more precautions and are appreciative of other persons concerns, more so than most people....

My reply was in response to Mutt's comment of -  "With air circulation within the plane I don’t think it really matters" - whereas clearly it does matter!

I hope you have a safe journey and enjoy your time in Spain, and am glad to see that you are well aware of the requirements/law and will abide by them - if only everybody had this same attitude.. Take care, and stay safe ! 👍

Hi Jam64

On the contrary, I think people do understand. I am, however, puzzled by some of your comments

If your COPD is severe enough to prevent you wearing a mask, should you not be shielding?

Your GP may well have given you a medical certificate, but I’m more than a little surprised that he did so knowing you intended to fly to Spain

“Plus seriously do you not think that if I was coughing and sneezing that I would not be catching it in a tissue” etc. No, I would expect you not to be travelling at all!

Your partner won’t cancel the holiday or change the date - really?

“I am sure they will accommodate anyone who does not want to sit next to me” I wonder if you would be quite so cavalier if all your potential travelling companions were “sans mask” 🤪🥂

If you have a medical certificate that says you are exempt from wearing a mask carry it with you at all times to show to the Police.

It may be wise to ask a solicitor before you leave but a German lady was exempt that had a certificate and she was OK.

In all honesty the masks are more like comfort blankets for people as to be fully useful a new one should be used everyday and only touched by the elastic to go round the ears.

Once the mask has been touch or moved to eat drink or whatever it is most likely contaminated.

But hey ho it helps somewhere along the line if someone sneezes that's the only thing I can see as all these fun ones are useless and most likely fu of germs anyway.

Have fun on your hols. At least we all know now how dogs feel having to wear their muzzles! 🤣🐕

Thank you. I will have it on my person all the time. It's done by a sworn translator and stamped. You have to go through the ministry of affairs in Spain who give you a list of Spanish sworn translators. So the police know it's legal because of the stamp. I know I will get disapproving looks that's something I will have to deal with. Will more than likely just stay by the pool in the day anyway, so don't have to wear one there anyway cause it's social distanced. Not really a night person. To old for that lol.
