OK sorry too but I would still recommend getting in touch with a gestor who can get everything together so they are ready to go once the restrictions are lifted as they may well be able to get appointments quickly, especially as there is likely to be a rush for everything.

And don't forget that it's been widely reported that the required income to achieve residency, if applying after 31st December 2020, is likely to be around 31,000€ per annum.

Hi Steve, due to the circumstances, if normal service hasn't resumed by 31st December there will be procedures put in place for those who have moved here before the deadline but were unable to apply. If the OP keeps receipts to actually show they have been here all along, such as food shopping, petrol etc I believe they will be OK. It is day to day spending that I would suggest receipts are kept for as rent, electric, water etc don't actually prove you have been in the country.
I may be proved wrong but so far Spain has shown willing over Brexit (Gibraltar excepted).

I concur....however it's certainly in their interest to achieve residency before the end of the year, just in case.

They can speak to gestor or solicitors by email and have everything in place (including several photocopies) for the first available slot.

It doesn't help them that they are here illegally. Seems they have had every opportunity to do this before last Saturday..

Hopefully the authorities refuse people who wait till the last minute or at least impose the 3rd world requirements on them. Ignorance  is not an excuse. Not following the law isn't either. Might set a precedent for what they will do if it is granted.

We returned to Spain 28th February,It was our intention to get our residency done ASAP, but my wife’s father fell ill and my wife returned to the uk on the 5th March leaving me to arrange legal help to gain residency, to which I did, unfortunately my wife could not return until Monday 16th March and by that time our legal advisor informed us that all public offices were closed, I have informed my legal person that as soon as the public offices reopen, please book us in ASAP, as for being here illegally yes that is a worry and frightening and before or when ever the state of alarm is over we may have to return to the uk to stay legal, I would like to thank you for your input.

Please give this person a break. By now, they understand what you are telling them. In due course, when everything is back to normal, they can do the right thing.

My only advice is this.   Stay safe, follow the guidelines of self quarantine and when this killer has passed and gone, you can continue living in Spain legally, happy and healthy. Good luck. Stop worrying. This is not normal times.
