Hola All,

I am looking for any wise tips or advice-around my current situation which is frustrating the heck out of me!

I am married and we have waited a while for my husbands work contract to come through (it was policy at the company he works for to issue a temporary on to start with so we had to wait to apply for residency)...He now finally has the long term contract and he went to the Gestor to apply for residency---BUT---we believed I too could apply off the back of his.  I have been told his 32 hours and 850 euros a month pay misses the threshold.

My option is now to go autonomous (i am training to become a certified coach and hope to have a trickle of income over the next couple of months starting)--and No, i dont have 7,000 euros in my bank so this is my only option...I need three months as autonomous apparently-before i can even apply for Residency.

I am now feeling left very concerned about the Driving Liscense exchange-Ive been told by the Gestor i CANNOT apply until i have my residency (same for hubby but praying his comes through before the end of the year so he can get the ball rolling).

I do not have a clear idea of what my options will be around being legal to drive here knowing now its most likely i wont get my lisence application in prior to Brexit.  Or Brexshit as im fondly calling it now.

Thanks for reading guys, Much love x

A website to look at is

www.getlegalinspain.com

They are based Torrevieja, but read their website, scrolling the menu and it informs you what you’re needs will be.

I have used them and found them very good, but obviously you are further away. As said have a read, good luck, stay safe and healthy my friend.

I really sympathise with your dilemma. I live in benidorm for years and have used the same firm of English solicitors for all my legal reasons including residency and tax affairs.

Look at their website:

https://www.expresslegalsolicitors.com/

You may have left it all to late now as the waiting lists are getting longer for appointments.

To gain residency there are requirements to prove that you are actually living in spain with the required amount of income being paid into a Spanish bank account for the previous 3 months and payments being made to various services ie rent and electricity bills. You require 1 years fully paid private healthcare for you and your family. A long term rental agreement or deeds will be required .

You can't change your driving license until you are resident. After 1st January you will need to retake your test in the Spanish language etc.

Hi Eliza,

There is a glimmer of hope for your driving licences, so long as you can get your TIEs this year.  The British Consulate has advised that Spain's DGT (Directorate-General for Traffic) will be issuing a form for pre-application by those wishing to register their intention to exchange their UK driving licence.  As long as the form is completed and returned online by 25 December 2020 (NOT 31 December in this case) and you then make an appointment, in person, at the DGT, you will be covered even if your DGT appointment is after 1 January 2021.  We're waiting for the British Consulate to confirm the form's release date, as soon as they are informed, and I will update the forum and soon as I know.

Also, please note that, unlike TIEs which you have to apply for in the autonomous region in which you live, you can apply to any DGT office for your driving licence exchange.  I live in C.Valenciana, but obtained my licence exchange in Murcia region.

Kind regards,

Kim
