Well Aitch the last time I looked at world map you can get from India to Europe by land ,the fact that people entering UK from India would either need to fly or come via ferry from Europe, unless you can track and test who is coming into the country  ,you will never stop infected people comi...

...ng in ,and what about the people from the Indian delegation at G7 conference a few weeks back ,found to have tested positive  ,they should have had to be tested before leaving India ,then went through same quarantine measures that others have to go through  ,you cannot open your borders to diplomats with prior negative tests

Sorry  should have read without ,rather than with

John, what difference does Europe being landlocked make to people travelling from India? They would all have come to Europe by plane. My point is that testing and checks are working here given the low number of infections at present in UK. Getting everyone vaccinated has to be one way of stopping...

... infections spreading.

There is a government briefing tonight, let's hope it is not a halt to the restrictions being relaxed.

Aitch.

Only problem is. The low infection rate doubled in less than a week with the new strain. Should have stopped travel to and from India as soon as they discovered how verillant it was.

"Blinkered and lemmings"

I'm lost. How does that comment come out of my comment about UK and genome sequencing?

Conversations in this place often go along the lines of "What is the weather like today?" Reply: "Purple.".

It's like people are incapable of coherent replies and just blurt out whatever nonsense enters their head.

Blinkered and lemmings...

Believe everything you are told by this bunch who call themselves a government.

The science may be good, but the policies and procedures are woefull.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Bit touchy !!

By the way. Weather very nice. Blue sky, no clouds and 24+ degrees.

The UK finding all the new strains, because they've allowed them into the country. How they didn't stop the India variant coming in as soon as it was discovered beggars belief. It should be far easier to control being a tiny Island and no land crossings. New Zealand managed to stop people going in by nipping it in the bud and shutting its borders.

The infection rates have doubled in a week, I can only imagine you are referring to a specific area, not the UK as a whole. Where .are you talking about?

Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, James Naismith of Oxford University said on Thursday: “I think we should view it as a country-wide problem. It will get everywhere. We keep learning this lesson, but we know that this will be the case.”

Your sitting in the sun too much, comparing the UK to New Zealand. NZ - 1200 miles from anywhere, population less than Scotland, UK 22 miles from France, population 68 million, trade and business traffic daily between the UK and Europe, both ways. Might be a tiny island but a large economy that has to trade with the Europe and the rest if the world.

It probably will Kim but to say the infection rate has doubled in a week, really?  I know the UK has a extremely low infection rate but I seriously doubt they have doubled in the past week.

It will also get all over Europe, after all flights into Europe where still going on up to the end of April   Let's hope the vaccines give us protection.

Touchy? No. Frustrated trying to make sense of the seemingly random things coming out of your keyboard? Yes.

You've gone from calling me a lemming for talking about the UK's genome sequencing work on the virus, to making ill-thought-out comparisons between the UK and New Zealand. Without ever bothering to actually explain any of the nonsense you type.

Sorry should have been a little clearer. The Indian variant cases doubled in under a week (not total cases). Which shows how it will take hold if not dealt with quickly
