Hi my names lisa, me and my husband are looking to rent or lease a bar in alicante or any other busy family friendly areas.

We have had our own pub in england but looking to bring our wonderful children to make a new life in spain.

Any help, recommendations would be very appreciated. Thankyou

Joanna,

It may be best to open a new thread looking for your property requirements.

This post will possibly get answers to the original posters requirements.

Good luck with your search.

Have you got your visas sorted out yet or are you lucky enough to have European passports?Very important now since brexit ended Brits freedom of movement.

an investment in house, property and/or business in excess of 500000 euros will get your family a visa if you are from outside of the EU.

Apart from the Visa and other issues, Lisa I would think long and hard before following this dream.

I know you have experience and that would stand up well to the challenge but running a bar in Spain can end up being very very stressful and financially ruinous.

The opening hours required to generate profit - especially in the first year - are long and arduous. It can put a mental and physical stress on individuals and relationships. Most Spanish bars are supported by extended family, they take the load off mum and dad so they don't burn out. Often children of working age help out too. This eases the stress and reduces the wage bill.

On the plus side there are so many successes, on the negative side it's a high risk venture.

I don't want to pour cold water on dreams and aspirations, not at all, just think long and hard before parting with money for a bar lease.

I fully agree with Steve.

In the time I've lived in Benidorm I've seen many new bars open and close within the first year, so much competition that the prices hardly cover costs, any bar here that increases prices gets avoided!!

I'd imagine it's the same in Alicante.....

Reiterate what the posters have said. The path is arduous and littered with casualties.

Whatever path you take I wish you the very best.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Hello

You are so wrong Tom01 and the whole process is far from simple & littered with  hurdles to get over & pot holes to avoid. People have no clue about Brexit restrictions re Visas for working/not working , financial/health requirements for all family members & many other things the Spanish Embassy ask for now. .

Only when you have answered as many questions as we have  & advised as many families as we have since 2021, would you have any idea how ill informed people still are about restricted holiday days  and  lack of 'freedom of movement'

I look forward to seeing some of  YOUR replies the next time someone posts a question and thinks you just Move to Spain & find a job like before!

Cheers
