Hi everyone

My partner & I are hoping to move to the costa Blanca area next year. My in laws have lived in la Marina for the last 20 years, we have visited lots of times. I’m a market trader over in the uk, I sell ladies & gents clothing & accessories. We are both 50ish & can afford to retire, I need to just keep my brain ticking so I’m thinking of trying the markets out, not with clothes but selling pancakes, yes I know that’s something completely different but I only need to do it part time. I love visiting the markets around la Marina, guardamar area etc & they do seem nice & busy, what’s your thoughts?

Any help, info or opinion will be appreciated

Many thanks

You will have to sell a lot of "pancakes" to pay the €250 to the taxman each and every month. This is due even if you don't sell anything.

If new to the system, you will pay less than €250 - I currently pay €273 (part-time) and €70 odd on top of that to the accountant per month. Long term employed.

In the first year, a new autonamo you pay €100-€150 and I also believe there is (or was) special rates for market traders - but my numbers will be out of date. You need to make contact with a local fiscal company & get the figures.

There are quite a few types of food stalls in some of these markets - though of course, always competition. I'd start by going to the markets, see what else is there competition wise - see if you can see how busy they are, try to gauge interest. Then IF your numbers add up - have a crack on it. Won't cost a million to set up  ;-)  With all of these things, if you have a 'stand out' product at a reasonable cost - people will come.
