Unfortunately if it is a UK Passport with a red cover this does not make any difference. UK nationals no longer have freedom of movement within the EU. If you wish to apply for a Spanish Visa the Spanish Embassey or Consulate (there are currently 3 locations in the UK that deal with visa applications: London, Manchester or Edinburgh) who will deal with your application is based on your current UK place of residence. The link below will help you to determine which location applies to you

May I add it is always best to follow official guidance and not that which is posted here as the authors (including me) may not be best placed or up-to-date with current instructions/procedures:

Billy,

Have a read through this:

Don't be tempted by sporadic offers of help from Internet sites.

There is no shortcut and magic answer.

Start by reading through "Spain, tips and Guides" and other tabs at the top of the page.

As Steve says;

Jobs are scarce in Spain and any available work must firstly be offered to an EU citizen. If you can find a job who no-one else can do then the employer will need to sponsor you with a work visa.

You will need private medical insurance and pay for all your medication and dental treatment.

Looks like I have reading to do

Thanks Cheryl

I'm not sure you're understanding what you're being told.

To save you a lot of reading:

From what you've said there is no way you will be able to land a job in Spain and subsequent sponsorship by an employer.

That leaves you with the Non Lucrative Visa under which you cannot work either in Spain or anywhere else, even remotely, and for which you need to demonstrate a annual income of €28,000/pa for each of the 5 years it will take to gain permanent residency. None of that can be from work or employment.

If you cannot do that then you have no hope of moving to Spain.

Just in case this is something you had in mind. Spain is in the process of developing a visa for digital nomads to take advantage of the explosion of remote working options accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. It hasn't yet passed all legislative processes (as far as I am aware). I have attached a link to further information (see below). As I said earlier, always best to check with relevant authorities than depend solely on posts here.

I worked for a UK Government department for 47 years and staff were always told not to make a verbal decision on any issue but to have all applications placed in writing. Therefore, submit an application if you feel you satisfy any of the conditions for any visa (obviously not this one as is it is in the developing process) and get a determination in writing. By doing this, it opens up the route to an appeal process should you think it is wrong.

I would suggest that you have a look at the following websites.

Citizens Advice Bureau Spain for bureaucratic stuff

N332 for anything to do with driving in Spain.   This site, and their Facebook page, is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people and has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code.

Not sure  fully understand how to demonstrate 28000 euro income without working.

I’m taking advice and doing some reading but it clearly isn’t as say as I first thought that’s for sure.

Thanks

This sounds more up my street and having cleared a few options with my employers could be the perfect solution with regard the remote working.

Thanks John great help that👍🏻
