The difference is that La Nucia is 10 km inland from the coast. That means you can get rentals far cheaper there than in Benidorm so it's not a comparison really.

Steve

Which is exactly what I originally said, Benidorm is more expensive because it's closer by without needing to travel. But just to add on that it actually goes from less than 10km away to over 20, we also found our bills were far cheaper aswel our electric very rarely passed 45euro even in winter (something we find very different here in La Vila)

Forget Britland - head Inland.  Just make sure you can walk to the nearest food shop and bar/cafe and can drive to the coast and airport within half an hour or so.  You'll then be getting the best of everything - Real Spain, Countryside, and a better chance of Learning the Language.

Now that is total rubbish......

There are very many busses running in all directions all day long.

Benidorm is no more expensive than anywhere else and cheaper than Albir etc.

You should give examples to back up ridiculous statements 🙄

Steve

That is OK if you live near a bus stop but easy to walk a kilometer or two, and uphill at that to and from your nearest bus stop. And a lot further to the bus station wayyyy at the back of town. €8 taxi ride.

Buses running in all directions? Now that is total rubbish. Why don't you give examples to back up your ridiculous statements? I spent a year in Benidorm so know what I am talking about. You did not get to the old part of town, did you? That proves you wrong.

I paid €650 a month for an apartment in Benidorm, then another €50 a month for a garage space some distance away. For just €425 I have a bigger apartment, 3 instead of 2 bedroom, a balcony and I have plenty of free legal parking outside, here in Almoradi.

IF you pay the same rent as 8 years ago, you are lucky. as most owners raise prices ASAP. At that price, has it got the word "cupboard" on your front door? Are you in some isolated spot?

Depends on what you're after, the pharmacies are more expensive there than Vila Joiosa. But the supermarkets and restaurants can vary depending where you go and what you're looking for, which is the same as everywhere. I personally find English bars more expensive for what your actually getting b...

...y comparison to Spanish bars if you drink spirits. Iceland is complete rip off but it's understandably very popular but again there are Icelands all over. However if you mean expensive as in apartment/house rentals then yes it is very expensive but its because it's central and close to the nightlife and local transport for the outer areas.

I liked that there was so many food, etc shops nearby in Benidorm. Prices in England have gone up meaning prices in Icelands have gone up too.

I have been using various Mercadona stores for about a dozen years and over the space of a few months, last year prices went up more than in those dozen years.

Heinz baked beans in Mercadona went ftom 80c to €1.10 to €1.75 now. In Icelands last week, tins of Cross & Blackwell beans (as good) were 4 for €3.85, so 96c each.

That's your own fault if you wanted to live in the back side of Benidorm just to get cheap digs.......

I've lived here 9 years so I also know what I'm talking about. Check the bus time table for buses that run every 20 mins and €1.60 every destination:

You may well pay less but you are many miles away from the coast. I like it here and happy with my lot....

My private landlord lives in Madrid and this 3 bedroom apartment (also with a big balcony) is in a very nice area belongs to his aged father. I'm 8 mins walk from the beach and 30 mins walk from the old town and yes still pay the same rent as I did 8 years ago. Only greedy Landlords like yours will fleece you at every opportunity!!

I paid €650 a month and you call that cheap, Sr 500? I was on Avenida Juan Fuster Zaragoza.

Buses only run to a few main streets, which are a small part of Benidorm. You then walk from there. What buses do you use to get to and around the UPHILL Old Town, a mere 25 or is it 30 minutes walk away?

What do I want to live on the coast for? To leer at all the sagging British and German flesh on the beaches and for the drunken Brits from Yorkshire?

Only 3 bedroons for that price? I thought you'd have at least 5.

🤭 you're a strange bod, I'm sure the Yorkshire folk will love your comments 😀

I bet you're a laugh a minute in your local, if anyone will sit with you.

Ey op. I've worked with Yorkshire twots.

I do not drink alcohol so no need for bars full of noisy music and even noisier people.

I'm very glad you live miles and miles away from Benidorm as we only like happy people who like a nice life 🙄

Stay happy with your cuppa (Yorkshire tea)

Before it becomes a slagging match can I be the voice of reason? Because you are both right and both wrong. Kaneda I do 100% agree with you about house prices and I proved to Steve it is cheaper outside of Benidorm, also it's full of disrespectful Brits.

However Steve is also 100% right about the public transport, although I never used it, there is very frequent buses around the town and it's always possible to change at the bus station and go further a field, most buses only stop on main streets to reduce congestion. Also your Landlord has no legal right to increase your rent he was fleecing you, legally they have to wait till the end of your contract and give you prior notice as to why it is increasing. As for supermarkets we all pretty said the same thing.

It really depends on what sort of people the the OP and his wife are and what sort of lifestyle they want. Personally I would always recommend living outside of Benidorm like Albir because you can get very good accommodation and be away from the craziness of summer time Benidorm but still be close enough to able to go there and enjoy it.
